I've got a big day tomorrow.

First, at noon, I'll be shooting Doyle Dykes (http://www.doyledykes.com) up in Riverside. Lighting should be pretty good. I've shot Doyle about a half-dozen times.

Then, tomorrow night, I have what I consider to be the shoot of my life, thus far.

Tim Flannery (http://www.timflannery.com) is a guy who used to play, and then coached, for the San Diego Padres. Now that he's retired from professional baseball, he makes his living with music. He's going to be playing at the California Center For The Arts (http://www.artcenter.org/). It's going to be the first time I'll have had the opportunity to shoot under true concert lighting conditions. I'm a little nervous (as Dwight will attest to), and a little apprehensive, but I'm excited as Hell to have the chance.

Anyway, let's hope for the best, shall we?

A good preparation always take most of the apprehension away. How are you preparing for these, i.e., which lens, what ISO, etc.?

I'll have both bodies with me, but will probably concentrate on the 20D, at ISO of 800 or 1600 (depending on the lighting), with the 70-200mm f/2.8L. I'll also have the f/1.8's with me, as well. The venue doesn't want me to set up a tripod, so I'll be bringing my monopod.

I'm pretty sure this'll go off without a hitch, but the apprehension is definitely there...

If dwight is coaching him, I think he is in good hands...

Absolutely, positively NOT! Nope! Just not gonna happen!

I have been shooting almost weekly at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California, for over a year. I have all the gear known to mankind that I can drag into the Samala Room each week. I have the total support of the entire staff of the casino ... they love my stuff. I know the LD. I know the room manager, the guards, the management. I have free rein. I have a ton of experience shooting in this room. I worry like a stuck pig before, during and after every concert until I deliver my product to the Director of Entertainment. Something can always go wrong! When I shot Juanes on Thursday my 1D Mark II locked up temporarily (I had to power cycle it) and I about had a cow!!! Of course, I had kept it downloading to the CF card constantly (little red light on) for about ten minutes while shooting 666 images! But something can always go wrong ... I have decided that rather than getting 24mm, 35mm and 135mm fast primes next I now have to divert that budget into a 1D Mark II N unless they announce something I can't do without at PMA ... I simply can't do that kind of work with my 20D for backup. In the past I have also had a lens walk off the top of a speaker (while attached to my 1D Mark II) and required Canon hospitalization for recovery. Nope, worry is good ... it keeps you on your toes ... it makes you recheck your equipment, arrive early, check out the venue, recheck the equipment, have TWO backup batteries, update that firmware and clean that sensor.

Yes, Steve was very apprehensive about his upcoming shoots and it is what caused him to verify, double check, discuss and prepare. But I think he, as well as me, continue to worry.

Sounds very much like a good preparation to me!! :p

Yep, I sure did.

Both shoots yesterday went well, although last night's shoot was the one I was really concerned with.

I don't have the photos ready to post yet, but I looked at them earlier today and I'm more than a little happy with them. Of course, there were some pretty crappy shots but, for the most part, they came out really good.

If I can get some up tonight, I will...
