Does anyone else find that on a wedding day they eat double to triple what they usually eat? I added it up... today I ate:
- three snickers/bars, with nuts in 'em
- an apple
- seven chicken rolls (twice the size of my fist each)
- a wedding dinner, with 4 meats, plate piled high
- two servings of dessert
- a big breakfast bar
- misc cheese and crackers
- 6 glasses coke, 4 diet coke, a couple of liters of water
- a sultana bran bar
- probably other stuff too

I'm still hungry.

Well, I hardly eat at all.... but I assume you need the extra boost for your blood sugar, to stay on top of things.

I usually sit and study for 12 hours a day and go to gym every other day for an hour or so.

Whenever I get outside and start moving a lot... or when I go to a beach and do physical exercise for the whole day I can eat a LOT.

But if it's a tourist trip, I usually adjust after 2-3 days of activity.

From a practical viewpoint, If I don't pack in a solid, balanced breakfast with a lot of fluids (coffee, fruit juice is excellent) prior to embarking on an 8-10 wedding day, I run into energy trouble at about hour 6 or so. Of course I'm in my 50's so I don't have the sustained high energy level of you young pups, even with my weight lifting and treadmill 8-). Bottled water, granola bars or trail mix will give a good energy boost.

Yeah, I have a sweet tooth also...the cakes and other things are always tempting, along with the soft drinks; bad calories at my age. If I eat too much junk the day of the shoot, I feel it the next morning.

I actually read about a wedding photographer that got a food poison by some of the finger food at the wedding.... so be careful out there (I'd only bring my own snacks).

I eat a lot of cheese and crackers, don't really eat that much at the dinners since most of the time the food isnt' all that good.
We did have lobster and steak at one event that was pretty decent.

On Saturday I had four meats all roasted on a spit (lamb, chicken, pork, beef), misc salads, and a great light chocolate cake for dessert. Yummy. Wedding food here is always good.

Tim, you are obviously young, likely posessed of a high energy level, and burn through that stuff in no time at all. I'm reasonably fit but have to spend extra time on the treadmill if I just LOOK at the dessert. I'm green with envy.

Wait til you hit 40.... the eyesight starts going, the waist starts coming, the hair begins going on sabbatical....

Er.....uh.... I think I would have preferred the AFTER photo. You know, the one after it had been subjected to about 375F in a nice oven for about 30 minutes...

I must say that i don't eat a huge amount, mainly because i can never de-concentrate (if that is a word) from the task at hand. I always drink lots and lots of fluids however - usually from sweating it out chasing people around i guess

I'm subject to the same distraction  . When at all possible I try to have my main meal at home prior to the shoot. It's difficult to capture the necessary table shots, speeches and other "surprises" if you are off behind some buffet.

Fluids are critical too. We've had a few scorching 90F+ summers here with bride's maids passing out left and right. It's always a good idea to keep a smaller cooler or insulated bag packed in the car with bottled water when you're running around doing outdoor shots. Lugging your heavy gear puts additional strain on your stamina as well in the heat.

It is wonderful PR when you can hand an overheated bride a cool bottle of water. Makes for good referrals too.........

my goodness Tim- if I drank half the amount of water and soda you did I'd miss half the shots running to the ladies room!

lmao, thats funny. No I usually eat less. I know I eat at he reception so I dont eat much before.. and even then I dont eat so much so it doesnt take me too long.

However I did say to one of the DJ ones that I would get FAT if I had a wedding every weekend! Just all those good things on the buffet add up every weekend :)

I hardly eat - I normally have a "feast" when I get home and have safely dumped my cards.

I drink a lot of water, tend to have a lot high sugar content snacks in the car, but eat normally apart from that.

OK, just reading that made me ill. That's a lot of food!

I find I get very hungry while shooting a wedding. I bring something that is quick to eat and will keep me going, and try to stay on top of the fluids. I don't usually eat much dinner, just one very fast serving, to get me through til the end of the reception. I'm usually exhausted and starving by the time a wedding is over.

Let's see, yesterday I had a steak quesadilla from Taco Bell on the way there, about 10 potato chips just before the ceremony (left my snacks in the car like a dope), and two small turkey sandwiches (small bun, like 3"x3", maybe 2 thin slices of turkey each, split a pack of mayo) plus about four bites of a pasta salad I didn't really like. 6-8 cream cheese mints (the main reason I love weddings!). A glass of punch, 2 glasses of water, 3 glasses of lemonade, and a 24 oz diet pepsi. Then a handful of Doritoes on the drive home. Wow, I didn't really eat that much at all!

I actually eat less - on the day of my last wedding I had a bowl of Cheerios in the morning, a banana in between the ceremony and reception and a handful of tortilla chips at home while I was uploading the pic files.

I do drink a lot of water though. At one wedding I refilled my water bottle 5 times in only 4 hours.
