Thanks enemykill,
I'm using extension tubes on my 105mm ex- had 65mm of them on for these shots but was not always at minimum focus.

Now that IS awesome! I love it when you come up with 'bugs with bugs' like this. I'm happy enough to get one main subject somewhere in the viewfinder. Hope Spring isn't too far behind up here.

Thanks Mike,
The little wasp? with the mites was actually having trouble taking off- didn't see the mites until I processed the pics (my eyesight is not that good)- unfortunately the shot that showed the mites best had a problem with ext tube communication and was taken wide open (seems to happen every now and then)

Think the bugs were relieved as well- we've had about 4 consecutive days of dull weather with temps just above 0'C but it didn't rain or snow.

very cool shots Brian.......my fave is the second hoverfly.......... I really like the side on angle in that one....
has hoverfly no 3 lost part of it's front leg?..... (i read somewhere that these bigger hovers are called Drone flies, because they mimic drone bees) I could be wrong tho
Mike....spring isn't too far off up here ..... be patient young jedi (bet you havn;'t been called young for a few years eh ;)).... i seen some flying bugs on Friday, unfortunately i didn't have the camera with me...

Think you are right about the leg on the dronefly- probably right about the name as well- they are certainly a bee mimic.

Great shots as usual, Brian. The compositions of the 1st 2 are great. They all are very sharp and have a lot of amazing detail. Great work.

Extremely great shots, as always.
I noticed something: do you have a uni-directional route there ? all your bugs here looking at the same direction ... loooolll
THanks for sharing

Think the direction of the bugs is to do with the direction of the sun (they always align with it- well resting hovers do, and me trying not to cast a shadow. :)

Thanks getting-started,
I like doing eye shots but you need a fairly calm bug to get them.
