We are new to letterboxing. This was our first "find"! The kids were very excited... like a big treasure hunt. In our very small town of 11,000, we found 3 boxes yesterday.

Thanks Brandy. It's more of a quick snapshot of the moment they found their first box!

This site will explain it all, but you go online, find a location where you want to search, get clues (directions) to where it is hidden and then go on a hunt to find the box. Inside the box is a notebook, stamp and stamp pad. You bring your own notebook and stamp. You stamp their stamp in your book and put your stamp in their book w/the date or a note, etc. It is fun for the kids to collect different stamps and remember where each one was, etc. Along with the stamps they are collecting in their notebooks, my kids will have a photo of each site!

one more thing, it is suggested that you make your own stamps, which we did (and I have the lacerations to prove it!)

It's very similar to Geocaching except that in Geocaching you utilize GPS (Global Positioning System) to find the cache.

Awesome. My brother and I do a lot of geocaching and this sounds very similar.

Geocaching sounds fun too! Letterboxing is great for kids b/c it is pretty easy and they love the stamping part.

Wow! what a fun way to spend an afternoon! I bet a great photo opportunity also, as one would probably notice small things not usually noticed on a hunt like this!
