In my opinion, the first is a nicer shot. The colors (yellow house, blue sky) seem much more inviting for this subject. I don't like the sky in the second and it doesn't seem to complement the house colors. I know you have no control over the lighting, but I would like to see the yellows on the front of the house as bright as on the right sides of the house and would have complemented the rest of the colors nicely , but it looks like you didn't have much direct sunlight.

It was a tough choice for me. I started liking the second one better, but the more I looked at it the more distracting the stalks were in front of the house. In the first the color makes them stand out against the house whereas in the second one they semi blend in and form a distraction. For that main reason I choose the first one. Additionally where the bright yellow is, just appears way overexposed in the second. I think something was lost when you converted to mono.

I like the crop in the second, you've removed the corner of another roof. Overall the first is better for me....you have detail in the highlit yellow siding on the sunlit side of the house (I have to lean close to my monitor to see much in the second). I also like the grass in the second version....now that I keep looking at it I'm not so sure.

Peter

I like the color one, but the mono is warmer, more pleasing.
The color in the first one seems too cold to me (look the bluish tint in the white walls). Probably if you warm up a little the color one (and crop it as the mono one) you will end with a more pleasing color image, with the best of both options.

I like the subject but not the way you have shot it. The foreground is distracting and doesn't add anything. Try to shoot some details as the combination of yellow and blue is great!

You have a lovely gallery. I seem to recall commenting on Suzanne. But I do not remember the close-up shot of the boat showing the portholes, etc. It is terrific. You kids are obviously delighted with life.

I also love Kiawah island -- although I cannot afford the rentals (I have a neighbour who sold his property there to buyat St. Agustine), so my wife and I usually settle for the Wilmington area - or Cape Hatteras where I love to windsurf (e.g. the Joly Roger). http://members.rogers.com/hleigh/1_WIND2.html

My comments:

1: This is a so- sooo- beautiful a house, and typical of the ocean front properrties that line the beach for miles.

2: I would just stamp out the adjacent roof.

3: That leaves only a scene that is a bit dark . But when I try to lighten it, lines appear in the roof while the beautiful light tan siding appears. I'd prefer just a bit lighter -- except for the foof lines.

Wonderful area. Simply wonderful.

First I would like to thank everyone for their comments and critiques. I have redone the full-color version – Auto Levels, Auto Color and High Pass Filter. I also used the clone stamp for the first time to remove the roof of the house next to it (thanks Howie), instead of just cropping it. I also included the only other shot I took of this house. I thought the sky was over exposed, but it does include more of the dune.

The color one is better. The house(s) are of modern architecture and I think that the sephia mode always have an old look - so it is improper here.

I prefer the first photo, but I would like some puffy summer clouds in the sky to make it more appealing.
