Hi There,
I have a 28-135 IS, a 17-40 f4L and a 70-200 f4L at the moment. As none is a fast lens, I am thinking about selling the 28-135 for another faster lens as my walkaround lens but those f2.8L are exceeding my budget.
I am now thinking either one of the following:
Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX ASPH DF Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD ASL IF Macro (A09)
Tamron AF 28-105mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD ASL IF Macro
I can see there are very good comments on the Tamron 28-75 but I would also like to hear the comments of the others.
Thanks in Advance.

Hey, you could get rid of the 28-135 and the 17-40, and you'd just about have enough for the 24-70L! :-)
That having been said, both the Sigma and the Tamron 20-ish to 70-ish lenses are quite nice, and are considered competitors for the L. I've owned two of the 24-70L's, and I'll be getting my Tamron this week. I haven't honestly read much about the sigma, other than some people have problems getting a proper copy, but when they do, they enjoy it very much. Also, the Tamron and especially the sigma can be very noisy lenses (no USM).

Honestly I have thought about getting rid of both 28-135 and 17-40 to have a 24-70 but the problem is I'll lost the wide end which 17mm is already not that wide on my 350D.

How often will you need the wide angle so much that you can't move back a few feet, though? I guess I just never really needed wider than 24. Each has their own needs.

Coming from the chief advocator of the 24-70L. ;)
I think you sleep with this lens, Ron. :p

I don't know what kind of conditions you are shooting in but I rarely need f/2.8 during daylight hours unless it's for background blur or it's a really dark day. That said, a 24-70 would fit well between 17-40 and 70-200. If $$$ is a concern, the Sigma is nicely priced. As someone else posted, you may not need wider than 24mm so you could also get rid of the 17-40. The kit lens is not great, but could also fill that wide angle need on those rare occasions when you really need it. I bought the Canon 24-70 because it is a real quality piece and I'm buying for the long haul. If you also sell your 17-40, I'd recomend the Canon. At some point, a Canon full-frame DSLR will be affordable and 24mm will really be all you'll need at the wide end.:D :D

For now...for now. Right now, I sleep with a 100-400L. :-)

The Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 EX DC look like a good candidate, although I haven't seen any test/reviews of it yet. I am interested in it, although I personally would rather have the Canon 17-40mm f4L.

Is this lens new? If so, when was it released? You say you can't afford the L but then this lens is shown for over $1400 on Tamron's website. Can someone elaborate on this lens for me?
