Here is one of the many thinks we got up to on the GKPE Taupo trip.Moppie's girlfriend Amanda had booked him to go skydiving as a supprise. We had all sorts of trouble trying to get him to the airport without giving away why. I thought Amanda and Moppie were going to come to blows for a minute! Anyway here are the results:

Moppie contemplating what he is about to do.....

Anyone remember Top Gun? "Into the Danger zone..."

Yip it was a lot of fun, and I was very reluctant to goto the airport to shoot boring planes!

I wish I could have taken my camera, but I know I would have dropped it. Especialy since the chute didn't open properly, I have some nasty bruises from being jolted, and I know the instructor will have some really bad ones as he had my hanging off of him.

Scott got better photos than the "pro" they had shooting, these are really really good.
Im going to have to talk you out of a couple of orginal copies :)

So did he jump with his camera?

Probably, but it didn't have a chute, so he will just have to get a 20D now :D

Scott, it's a shame that pics can't show Moppie's legs shaking... Mine would be if I had to jump out of a plane... and with a somewhat faulty parachute!

Great capture!

The grin on your face, in the 4th picture, cracks me up.
It's like.. "yeah, I know I'm cool, I know you think so too"

Most excellent photography, too :D

Excellent shots, magnificent experience.

(I did my jump out at Whenuapai over 5 years ago and I can still get a buzz just thinking about it).

Scott, you did a great job.

Excellent shots

Thanks everyone. I had the advantage of having the sun behind me. The "Pro" was shooting into the sun, so didn't have a chance really.

Yep, as opposed to the others where Moppie is trying to keep a straight face! Heck, I'd probably be screaming my head off the second I exit the plane! Then again, Moppie's smile might be a smile of joy being that he is on terra firma! .. notice the shaking legs...?

Abseil, yes... bungy, maybe... jumping out of a plane.... no... no way unless my life depended on it! Besides, insurance clauses doesn't cover a mishap -- if and when it happens... my poor wife and kids will have a fit!

Aswome mate, Ill try and get them tomorrow, depends when i get out of work.

I'v done a bit of thrill seeking before, a fair bit of abseiling in school/scouts, 4 bungee jumps, 12.5hrs of pilot training including 2 solo flights, some stunt flying in the back of a Pitts Special and lots of Motorsport.
So while I was excited about it, I wasn't nervous. :)

Oh I dunno ... in that first shot you're definately wearing a nappy under the cool sky diver outfit ;)

What would be cool is doing it reverse.. being flung up at great speed from a glorified super-trampoline hoping to be on target as a aeroplane's door goes by at x_thousand feet at x_hundred miles per hour.. now that would necessitate a nappy.
