I personally never take an image above ISO setting of 50 because of the excessive noise levels, is this the case for other users of this type of camera ? ...

I had an A80 for about a year, and it's true - the noise level is high at high ISO, but this is a shot taken at ISO400. not so bad, after noise reduction.

If its a photo I want to look good I stick with ISO 50 or 100, I can see little differnce between the two.
However, I will sometimes use ISO 200 if its something where I would rather have a noisy photo than no photo at all, and ISO 400 is reserved for snap shots of friends at druken parties :)

Noise reduction can work wonders on a faster shutter speed ISO 200 or 400 photo, but longer shutter speeds also add noise, and its easy to reach a point where it dosn't matter what you do, you will get a noisy photo.

It all has to do with the small sensor size, and its a problem faced by All compact cameras.
In my experiance Canons range have less noise than the competition, and you only have to compare any other brands camera from the same period to see the differnce, especialy at slow shutter speeds.

This obviously has a bit more noise than the above post, though I don't see where the image was ruined by any means, especially after a quick clean up with Neat Image. It took first place in the #3 Animals challenge.

You've stripped the Exif, but what ISO was that shot at?

Also note that the texture in the cats fur hides a lot of the noise :)
