Hi all,
tis is very strange !!
when I put the Camera with the lens down to the case, the the red indicator light lights on allthough the camera is switched OFF. I do not hit the body against any trhing and I am also handling the body with care, but why this behaviour of the red light. It seems to be, that this fenomenom does only appear when a CF-card is inserted. Please have a go and let me know what is wrong with the camera.

You're probably jiggling the CF door ajar and then closed again. It thinks you've inserted a new card and tries to set it up.

If its anything like the 20D the camera is never actually off if it has batteries in it. If its off and you insert/remove a CF card or open the battery door the little red light will blink for a second.

Thank you very much, but it has really nothing to do with insert/extract or even switch on/off the AF/MF switch on the lens or the IS switch. The situation is only whithout pushing or switching anything, and very very slow, as soon as you have some friction on the lens with fabrics, and the camera is lens-downside, that the screen faces to you then it appears.
Plaese try !!
By the way, when the CF is not inserted I ve not noticed this bahaviour.
Thank for your repplies.

You don't have to actually open the door. If it's not snugly and firmly closed, any motion/flexing/pressure might cause this. Are you holding the camera by the grip area when you put it in the bag? Do you have the grip attachment?

you probably aren't talking to me, but i have no grip on the camera and i set the camera into the bag (LowePro Magnum AW) by holding it just in front with my hand around the lens.
others have reported this may be due to the orientation sensor (i doubt it), but have also mentioned that this happens without a lens mounted and even without a CF card in the slot.
Rob Galbraith's site has quite a few posts in regards to this.
do you own a 5D?

my 5D does the same thing and my 20D's did too...seems to be normal...in fact, if it didn't do it...I'd start to worry......I got used to it.......don

My 5D red light blinks at all kinds of odd times. Even if it is turned off, the light flickers after mounting a lens. It flickers when inserting or removing a CF card (when turned off), and sometimes when I am just maneuvering it into my camera bag. Whatever is "running in background" doesn't draw much juice, because the battery lasts quite a long time (as long as you use 511-A batteries).

Another ghost in the machine/canon? I will have to check this out with my 20d.
Just to clarify when you say its "off" is the switch in the off possiton or just in "hibernation" mode?

As I recall the 20D only does it when you insert a CF card, or on power-up. Which of your actual actions seems to be trigerring this? If you just hold it in a vertical position, does it do it then?
