Wow..those are great! I love the second one. Nice exposure and I love the water dripping off the bill. Awesome bird.

Thanks nganett. I saw several ibis on my walk yesterday but these were the only two who gave me a decent shot.

nice to see in breeding plumage. The few that stray up here in spring are always brown.

Great shots, and the exposure is perfect, difficult on those white birds.

Thanks Sam and Dennis -
On bright sunny days, their white is brilliant. I shot these in manual mode -- something fairly new to me. In the pase I shot baseball in AV mode but this season I plan to use manual more -- especially on bright, cloudless days. White uniforms are also difficult to deal with -- white ibis and egrets make for good practice ;) .

Nice one - both this and the 'Drying Their Wings' topic :D
I think #1 is better though the water on the bill of the Ibis in
picture #2 makes it hard to pick which one is better. Both are great :D
OH and for AV mode and bright whites - not sure how it works on your 1D
but you could set it to automatically under-expose by say bout 1/3rd a stop.
I pretty much leave my 350D set like that in TV mode. Works wonders :D

Wow, I love this shot, some slightly warm spots but whites can be hard and it looks like you had pretty harsh light. The sharpness and detail are good though and I love the reflection in the water of the bird and beautiful blue sky. Very nice.
