Sorry but just rying to understand why so many threads I open have only the cross placeholders ? Dont know if this is an IE thing or what - do other people have this problem ?
Is there some setting I need to change ?

Florence Nightingale syndrom  ?

Or more likely some software your employer uses to block his employees from seeing certain pages (e.g. Webbasher etc.)

You can normally find out by copying the link of the image and opening it in another window. If it's blocked, there normally is some kind of message.

Best regards,
Andy

I have the same problem, but only with a small number of individual posters, and only with attached images. In fact, if I attach an image to my own post I can't see it, if I link an image, it shows up fine. This problem shows up with so few posters, I've just ignored it til now.

I've been having the same problem lately. Didn't have it at all until recently, and it keeps happening more and more often.

Sometimes if I clear my cache and/or reload the page, the image(s) will appear, but that doesn't always work.

My new best friend pushtoexit answered this in another thread:
I believe,
There are two unique URLs which leave cookies for automatic login etc.
http://www.photography-on-the.net
http://photography-on-the.net

Sometimes if you are logged into one and the picture is linked to a URL on the other, you only see red-x. In most cases people log into www.photography...and can't see pictures at http://photography...(because they aren't recoginzed as being logged in)

So go to http://photography-on-the.net make sure you are logged in

This solved my problem.

edit: oops, the thread: http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=120996

I never had the problem before so the upgrade must have caused this little glitch. I suppose their config file has 2 calls for the directory, one with www. and the other without.
