Well, Dwight said he wanted to see some pictures I shot in a club on Saturday.

Here are Haley and Doyle Dykes, playing at the Voodoo Lounge in Riverside, California:

Now that I look at it, the last one looks a little soft, but still workable.

Comments, suggestions, criticisms; you know the drill...

Nice work overall Steve. I think the last two are a little soft, but then I'm starting feel that sharpness is overrated on PotN because out in the real world including the media I see lots of soft images being published!

I find the colours to be a little dull. Did you shoot RAW or JPEG? It may be a WB thing that could be sorted in processing. On the other hand, I think with a little playing these images could be a little nicer in B&W.

Overall, though...nice work!

I was shooting JPEG.

I think I may agree with you about the colors...

Well, we all have our opinions about crisp images I guess and these are a bit softer than I would like, but I love the compositions and the Guitars! :-) I would like to see some tighter head shots and some "back of the room" wide angle shots to complete the set.

I chatted with Onnie McIntyre yesterday and today and it looks like Average White Band will be using my images for their website and an upcoming UK tour. If they decide they want to fly me in to shoot in the UK I may have to ask if I can bring you along as my assistant! BTW, the embroidered polo shirts cost me about $600 for 15 (they would be much cheaper each if I was buying 144 or more) ... I won't have them for a couple of weeks and I'll let you know what I think when they come.

Hell, I could go to England.

Forty bucks a shirt, huh? Damn. That's a bit more than I really want to absord. I think there are some local places in our beach areas that'll do one-offs with embroidery. I've got no idea what they charge, though. Still, I'd rather pay $50.00 each and get two shirts than kick down $600.00 and get 15. Hell, I don't know 15 people who'd want to wear 'em!

Hahaha! Yes, the shirts are pricey, but for me it is a business expense. I am having eight made for me, three for wife, one for Anna, and one each for three guys who are my clients. I can wear mine to my day job at the university as well as my photography business and just out and about. It is kind of overkill but it is in this year's equipment budget. Hmmm, I would have gotten one for you but I didn't think about it and now you may be coming with me to the UK and will need it ... about 1 chance in 10,000 I think. :-)

You know, we'll have to get new ones made for the national project!

I'll put you in on next year's order. And not only will we have to get shirts made for the national project, but also hats ... and we'll need a logo before we can get started!

Do you have any thoughts on the ConcertShooter.com website? Sounds like a neat idea but it seems to be a one man show. I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

I haven't really looked at it. I'll do that this weekend...

I'm somewhat new to these boards, so maybe you've said as much already, but I'd be surprised if you weren't being published in Wood & Steel. It just seems like a given that your shots would appear there.

Cheers

Indeed, they have. I've had a shot in two of the last three issues, and just submitted a CD of Doyle Dykes photos to our PR Department. I'll likely get a shot in the next issue, as well...

I like the last two shots best. Has also to do with the BG, in the first seriesd there's too much loght on that. I would have cropped some images different, but apart from that : Nice. Also some shots made from closer up would've een nice.
They do look soft though, but that also might have to do with compressing them for web (I do see some jpg artefacting)
