Wedding Training and non-compete

I wedding photographer around here offers formal training on wedding photography as the main shooter. In return you enter in a contract for 50 weddings shoots (paid) and a non-compete cluase. How do you guys feel about that?

is there a timeframe for the 50 weddings.. If he gives you 5 per year I'd say no... If he gaurantees 50 in one year I'd say consider it

he says it normally takes about 3 seasons to shoot 50 weddings, he pays $30/hr.

He has 16 photographers and every photographer has a 2nd shooter on every wedding.

@ $30 per hr for 3 seasons.. You will definately be pulling your hair out near the end of season #1

I would pass. Maybe see if you could be a seccond shooter for $20 per hr w/no contract

i'm sure that you would get paid more the more you work for him and all, but a contract for 3 seasons, that's a long time. 1 season would be nice.

Maybe (allthough i'd doubt it if he is making you sign this contract), but the only thing that is certian is that you can not compete with him untill you shoot 50 weddings.

To contractually obligate yourself to that would be murder IMO

That photographer is a smart man.
I personally wouldn't do that. you should be able to make about the same working as an assistant, getting hands on while working with a professional.
