Nice place to live, but is it a good photograph. Anyone?

Regards
Martin.

Hi
That is indeed a great place to live.
Also this is a very very good photograph.
Very pleasing with or without the foreground boulders.
Well mounted too.

Perhaps I'd prefer to see the foreground sharp, is my only reservation.

A lovely image

This looks like a good photo to me -- and it looks like a nice place to live.

Well that depends on what your objective was. If this is a record shot of your home, it is great. If it is a shot intended to convince me that this is a "nice place to live" (and here are whether we talking about the house, or the general area is not clear) -- then I would say no. Why? It lacks dramatic lighting (may be underexposed or in need of a boost in Curves), the subject itself is somewhat sprawling, and the sea looks lifeless.

Now, I know Scotland a bit too. So I am not trying to hurt your feelings. I am just saying that this is not the best view of the Lochs or the Isalnds that I have seen with my own two eyes.

Still friends?

HOWIE

No offence taken Howie! The photo doesn't really thrill me either. It was a very overcast day and at the time I took it nothing interesting was happening with the light. Different light and this photo could have been a lot more interesting? I like to post images I am unsure about or even have the feeling are 'failures' because I have been wrong before on my judgement of photos I have taken. Remember my pigeon shot?! As we know, photographic 'success' if very often a matter of personal taste. What one person thinks is great, the other thinks is rubbish! Already that has been proven by Elands positive responce.

regards
Martin.

I too know Scotland very well. I went to university there.
I like the mood of the image. The dull overcast with clouds
hanging low over the hills is very much a part of living in Scotland.
And I wouldn't expect to see large surf in a loch.

Scenes like this are fairly common there, and that is what
makes the picture evocative for me.
I spent a vacation in a small village on the banks of Loch Lomond
and would often see Ben Lomond across the loch,
shrouded like this.

Many a time I played golf under Scottish skies like these,
and got soaked for my troubles.
