I just got the Sigma 70-200 EX DG APO HSM lens from B&H.
I'm taking some test shots and love the sharpness but I'm getting some huge settings the camera gives me at 200mm.
Aperture Priority:
Set at f/8, gives me a shutter speed of 1/1250
Shutter Priority:
Set at 1/125, gives me a aperture of f/20
Is this normal?
What would you use? I can't imagine the speed it will give if I set it to f/2.8.

If you are outside in good light then that doesn't sound bad. If you are indoors in poor lighting and still getting good exposure then hang on to that sucker.

What is your ISO set at? I have shot at 1600 before and forgot to change it. Doesn't take too long before you notice that something is out of whack.

Sorry the ISO was set to 200.
It was outside but it's been pretty cloudy today.
I guess everything is okay, I'm happy.

Thanks In2Photos
I find it funny because I usually tell people the same thing.

Those readings sound about what you should see in bright sun at ISO 200 ("Sunny 16"). How does your histogram look? Do you have any EC dialed in? If you're seeing real clouds, not a high overcast, you'd typically be a stop or two slower.

you say that at f/8, it gives me a shutter speed of 1/1250. That means at 11 it should be around 1/625, at 16 - 1/300, and around 20 it should be around 1/120. Your results are just fine. These are just rough estimations. Basically the speed should be cut in half for every stop (5.6, 8, 11, 16) you increase.
