We went along to the Auckland Lantern festival last night with a gathering of the Kiwi POTN crew and captured just a little of the imagination used to create the displays. Hope you like them. I'd decided not to take tripod as there were so many people there, and as a result had to shoot things that weren't moving much. Mainly slow shutter speeds and ISO800

Camera tossing.
You need to make your own thread for this one, and draw the crowd in!
The only thing I would be concerned for would be the orientation sensor.

Pete, wow! How'd you manage to get whole stars into the equation? Did you take the pic for a few seconds then swing the camera around? INteresting how it came out.
Cheers!

that last one sure is interesting. the best part was watching the blank stares of those around as this 'crazy man' was srining his camera around :)

Nice shot Simon. It works well. Good test of the POTN strap, Pete. Brilliant result. I'm also curious about how you ended up with the stars showing out.
Joeseph, I thumbed my nose at the floating lotus flowers, but you've come up with a really nice result.

She's a Witch! Shhh - it's a secet :p
Throwing me off a cliff will only make me cackle more though...
I have some Zebra Lantern pics, I'll maybe post them when I'm allowed on my home PeeCee.
^^ to all those pics, nice! Love the final effect on the camera tossing, Pete. Although, you cheated, you never let go of the neckstrap :p
John - I love the dragon :D
Scott - the Steeple looks surreal in the over exposure :)
Moppie - the motion shot rocks
Duncan - Rabbits are bad luck, except on the 1st of the month.. apparently. I still like yours though ;)

Oh dear - haha - that'll teach me to read while arguing on the phone to a useless manufacturer starting with the letter F (australasian wool 'leader' thingy... )
My apologies, here I was trying to respond to every pic.
I suck :p

Remember the woman who was going nuts asking us to take her pic? This isn't one of the best pics... but it did give me a laugh...

I tried cleaning this up but I could only do so much... not to mention that the pic was taken without a flash...
