Had the first outing with the new lens last night.
Took some challenging shots, which probably don't show the true quality of what the lens is capable of.

it's being retailed here at round 2,000-2200 usd. I am definitely getting it, problem is.. how do you hide a lens this big from your wifey :(

It's actually the left side of the road. It's the northwestern hemisphere that has wrong sides of roads...

Kabayan, I have to agree. There's no hiding that monster from your better half...
But having a feel of Warren's lens the other day at the "GKPE: Meet Tim" afternoon makes it a very tempting acquisition. Then again, Warren is young and single -- all the advantages in his favour. :)

Then again, Warren is young and single ^^ Oh really...
I'm lucky that I get access to that lens whenever I feel the urge. But I do fear breaking it, so the urge is well supressed.
Quality over quantity is almost a non issue with this lens. Maybe it comes down to user capabilities, but pretty much all of Warren's photo's have come out sharp.

Very nice. Warren, what time of day would you say these pictures were taken? It looks to be late afternoon/early evening in the ship pictures. Also, given the overcast clouds, i'm really impressed by how clear they are. This lens is definately the one I'm getting next. Now have to start saving......
Also, at your meet, did you get a chance to compare it against a 100-400L, IQ wise? I'm curious to see how they stackup against each other.

Oh, and that's not the New Zealand I was thinking. Where's all the hobbits, orc's and wizards? How far is Mordor from there? Are you sure Peter Jackson filmed "Lord of the Ring" there? :)

Are you sure Peter Jackson filmed "Lord of the Ring" there? :) That's over seas in the other Island - The South Island (if you exclude Hobbiton (http://www.hobbitontours.com/), which is less than 2 hours south of Auckland)
We're mainly all situated on the North Island
Do you kind of get the impression that important types sat up all night thinking up what to name NZ's 2 biggest Islands? :p

Thanks for all the comments.
The ship shots were at sunset, but no sun, as it was hidden with clouds. So in fact, it was rather dark! The only thing which saved me, was wide open, low shutter speed and ISO 400.
Wasn't Mordor, Mt Ngauruhoe or something?
The rest of the LOTR, was set around the South Island, as Kirst said...
Beautiful...

Nice lens, my brother nearly bought that lens... but we ended up going for the 100-300.
One thing that puzzles me is why Sigma gave it such a short lens hood? :?

Wazza, great pictures. I'm thinking the first picture you took with that lens is the avator. ;)
