Greetings, Canonites...

I took the plunge today: I bought a G2.

I was seriously toying with the idea of getting a Nikon Coolpix 5000, but its release is long overdue and probably won't be out till about January...2004. I'm sure I'll be VERY pleased with the G2. So many other folks are.

I attached a yellow smiley face to indicate happiness. Time will tell. I just got around to begin charging my G2 about an hour ago.

Price? $869 + tax. Not exactly a bargain, eh? Well, my nearby camera store is the largest in my large metropolitan area (and the state), has a great staff, etc. I didn't want to spend hours playing the "great price--lousy dealer--find the best balance" game.

Wish me luck.

One problem so far: I can't figure out where the hell in the G2 to load the roll of film.

It's not a plunge, it's a flight.

So we're going to be hearing from you again...

Hi Heiromonk,

My best regards to you for taking the plunge!!

Well I too took the plunge and received my G2 in the mail today. I bought it off an internet retailer.

Just had one question. Was the box for the camera sealed? I opened my UPS package and the box inside for the G2 looked good but did not have any sticker or any other seal. The contents inside look all new, the camera itself was placed in a soft (kinda paper) cloth and then in a small bubble wrap, though not sealed.
I opened the camera and it looks like new.

Could you tell me how the packing was, as I want to know if it comes that way or was I taken for a ride?

Regards,

K Smith

Greetings, K. Smith:

Your G2 packaging sounds identical to mine. When the store dude handed me the box, there was no shrink wrap around it. And the camera itself was wrapped like yours.

Now, whether we were taken for a ride or not is one of the ponderable questions that we'll take to bed each night for the foreseeable future. I hope all was well with the contents of our respective boxes. But no shrinkwrap seems to explain--in part--how those mega-discounters might possibly come up with some of their creative package deals. (Of course, for the sake of argument, I'm ignoring the manufacturer's list of contents that ships with a product.)

So with my very first digital camera I've taken three pics so far. The "see-the-pic-right-away" thing is quite fun.

Good luck.

Thanks a bunch Rowe,

I guess your reply put a little peace on my mind. I'll probably be reading the manual the rest of the night, and then start shooting some pictures !

Thanks nce again.
