The bride and her mother were unimpressed with this cake. the top was lopsided but she told me the picture was so beautiful that she forgot how she had felt about the cake on the wedding day :) By keeping it warm I feel it focuses more on mood from this picture rather than detail.

While waiting for the Bride and Groom to cut the cake I noticed that the cake was melting because there were two windows on either side of the cake. And I call it the leaning cake of mysterious lake.

Hey Tim:

You can only do what you can do sometimes. Like in my post. The Bride was so upset about the cake I shot she didn't even want to cut it. I also remember a cake that was droped and the cake maker had to redo the icing. So I guess it's where the cake is and what condition it is in at the time of shooting it. I think all these are great shots.

By the by yours are great.

mackb

I know cake shots should be "creative", but is a wide angle needed (I don't have one) and how do I include the entire cake without the picture looking boring.

Tim,
I'm still pretty new at weddings so I don't have much to choose from (to post). I love the way you challange us to do better (It keeps me going).

justj,
I actually took this at iso 1600 with my 10d (1600 is not a good thing with my 10d), I then added a soft edge to make it look as if I added the noise. I would rather have some clear-sharp pics of a cake.

Hi Light:

What type of cake is the bottom one of your post? Or can you tell me what the theme of the cake is? It is so differant I needed to ask. Great shots by the way.

Not this 'let-me-be-humble-so-that-whenever-somebody-finds-something wrong-with-them-I-will-be-able-to-save-my-face-and-dignity' kind of logic again. Enough already..

If you do not take good pictures after all these years and thousands of posts in a photography forum and spending zillions of dollars on equipment, I suggest you tie a rock around your neck and jump into a deep sea.

Well fine Mali, I take great photos, and if you don't like them you're wrong! :p Seriously though, it's always suprising how different peoples tastes in photos are, something that one person likes others don't like at all. If I have five similar photos sometimes a customer will order my least favorite one of the five.

my take:

Not that this is a reflection of these particular images but it does illistrate my point from my last post on this cake thing. In the first image there is to much in the back ground it takes away from the cake. The second image had to be takin' becuase of the back ground of the first. So as I said before it is not just the photographer sometimes it is where the cake is and what you can do with it. I understand we should open our eyes and see other things but you can only do what you can do.

I know Blah Blah Blah and 10 cents worth. LOL:o

Good Job on these by the by.

Wow, I never thought there were so many different looks to wedding cakes! Love the funny figures on some of the cakes. Some of the cakes don't even look like cakes, they're pieces of art work and arhitectural science! I wonder what some of them cost...

One comment to many people on this thread: you seem to be taking photos from your regular height standing about the cake. Consider getting level with the middle of the cake, and also try taking a shot from above the cake.

It's difficult to showcase a photographer's style when the subject itself (the cake) isn't exactly their own style. Some of these cakes aren't the best looking, so still being able to convey a good photo says a lot about the photographer.

Mizuno - that's an adorable cake, and I really like the shadow.
Lime - The detail in the cake topper is great!
CMM - That cake is beautiful and the angle is perfect!
Tim - The view from atop is classic! I like the knife's linear edge next to the round cake!
Jamie - you're just ridiculous. Ridiculous in my vocabulary means so exceedingly good that it's just... ridiculous. The beach cake photo is my favorite, simply flawless.
Sierra Nova - That second photo is gorgeous. The color of the curtain pulls out the colors in the cake and the natural light gives it a great feel!
Janika - I love how you captured the water drops!!!
Bill - I might've cropped it a bit, but the midnight sepia works wonderfully in this photo. I really love the light from the windows!
Tim Wee - I love these pictures! The color is so vibrant and I like how you captured the detail!

Ok well I'd keep commenting, but I've gotta get back to work! Thanks all, I've really enjoyed looking at these photos! It gives me an idea of what my photography style will be like and what I want for my own wedding cake.

Guten Tag!

LOVE that first shot Lin-z. I think it has everything going for it: pleasant B&W touch not overdone, good framing and balance, great compostion, DIFFERENT.

I only say these things because it was my immediate gut reaction. I did not have to think about what I liked - and that I feel IMHO is the mark of a very good photograph - immediate visceral response. - Stu
