View Full Version : New Full Moon Night Series From the Canon 20D

Here is my new series shot on my new canon 20D using a peleng 8mm f3.5 fisheye lens. They are all about 60 seconds to 200 second exposures at night under a full moon.

The peleng is a difficult lens to work with and is a bit poor quality but I still managed to get some good shots.

I dont konw how I feel about this set. I'm still learning how to use the 20D at night + working with the raw files to produce images I like. I also have to get a new set of balls and travel further inside some of these buildings. Shots would look so much better if I went inside and blasted off a flash in every window but being alone I sometimes fear falling through a floor board with no help for days. I'm also afraid of monsters.

Also, these shots are not computer manipulations. They are basically straight from the camera. The only editing I do is change the white balance when I edit the raw files, cropping to remove some of the black edges from the fisheye, and some light cloning to remove the black even further if the crop is to tight.

I hope you enjoy them. I posted up the whole set because I'm not really looking for critiques but am welcome to any input.

An awful lot of shots to critique, so don't expect anyone to try. I will say, however, that there are some that hit and some that miss. Of the ones that I like I perfer the shots with the red lighting. I would vote for number 2 as the strongest shot here.

The individual shots load too slow, though.

Yeah, I guess I'm not really looking for to many critiques but am open to comments if anyone wnats to say anything. I do think alot are hit or miss but I just figured I would post it all up and let people say what they want or just browse.

I really like these. Although I've never used a fisheye, the results I've seen tell me that it is a hard lens to use effectively. You have used it to perfection (okay, maybe a little generous, but they are very cool). I like that you have still framed the shots using traditional guidelines for composition which make them successful. Well done.
If I ever start doing night photography, I will be using your work as a guideline.

I agree.... to much fish, but its the only wide angle lens I own right now. Also the fish is wider than my film cameras 16mm lens which also bothers me. I usually have to crop the photos. :(

Dear Arin,

They are all attention-getters. It's the color and it's also the fact that none of the lighting looks natural - it all looks very Un-natural.

The only one that I would criticize in regard to composition is the middle one in row 5. The lower left corner is too much of a distraction, and the rest of the picture is thereby neglected.

Very remarkable work!
