Time Lapse / adding software

first post, sorry if its wrong spot. I have a powershot sd400 and I was wondering if there was a time lapse option. ie takes 1 picture every 20 seconds for a given time period. I have searched my options pretty extensivly and haven't found it.
secondly, is there any people out there who write code for this sort of thing and then somehow upload it to the camera software? is that even possible. any thoughts, thanks guys.

I'm not familiar with the sd series, but Canon refers to the time-lapse function as "intervalometer." I have a vague recollection that a PC connection to a camera can control time-lapse shooting with Canon's software... again, not certain of the specifics, or whether it's applicable to your camera.
