Happy Valentine's Day to all of my chums!
Here's the image I took yesterday and used to whip up some last-minute V-Day cards for friends and such. I know it's been done before, but I still find it neat. To make it I just propped up a red filter on the part in a book. I used one light and used a snoot to make sort of a spotlight as you can see here. A little bit of post-processing with PSCS2. Enjoy!

Of course I don't mind if you use the idea. I didn't think of this on my own, either. I was inspired by a photo I saw a few years ago that did a similar effect with a small glass dish. And yes, I did selectively blur the background with CS2. It helps to focus the image, if that makes any sense.

Okay I really hope you don't mind, but I loved this shot so much I had to try it out myself. Picked up a red filter today, and came out with this using a white led flashlight.

Ran it thru NoiseN, but removed very little. Resized, and thats it. Yes I did use a photography book to take the image on. Btw, i'm curious as to who made the original image you said you previously saw?

I don't remember who took the picture that inspired me as I saw the image about four years ago floating around somewhere on the net. I feel a little bad because I would like to credit them as my inspiration, but I don't remember who it was.
Also, Gujustud, very nice image. When I first set up the image the "shadow" that the filter made was way too long and made framing difficult and odd. I had to adjust the angle of the light, the snoot, and the distance of the snoot opening from the filter which ended up being about 3 inches. The closer the light source to the filter, the stronger the outline of the heart shadow became. The thing about digital photography that is so remarkable is that you can use any light source and with Photoshop still get the WB right. Shooting in RAW is also a wonderful tool.
Thank you everyone for your comments, I appreciate them very much. I love having a talent that can be used for every holiday or special occasion. My friends and relatives really like receiving framed artwork for Christmas in lieu of sweaters, fruitcakes, or grocery store gift certificates.

Great stuff.
Well executed and ald also good PP.
Regarding the idea not being new, here's what I think:
Even better if you took one good idea and perfected it.
I don't think we have always to "invent the wheel".
