I have put in some time in with the new Tokina AT-X 287 AF PRO SV and can say it is a really great lens in every way and for only $279.00 and a 3 year warranty it is a steal. I got the lens for my wife's camera and I have used it for the last month and it is really sharp and fast A/F. I am really happy with this lens as I have the canon 28-70 F 2.8 L . My wife droped the canon L so I got her a lens she can drop this way I will not get so mad at her if she drops it once more. The Tokina is often over looked for Sigmas and this lens is far better than the sigma by far. I sent back the sigma as I was not happy at all to soft at 28MM. The Tokina is a very sharp lens and is a great value.

You know I wish I knew how? How do you post your Pix on the sight? And will I need to resize them for the sight? Give me the info and I will try to post some Pix.

You can't upload directly to the site :(
You need to have imeages uploaded to another website allready and either link to them or "inbed" the link in a post.
I use www.fotopic.net as a gallery space that allows me to link to other sites as well. It gives you 250 MB of free space for images!!!
I have been eyeing a few of the tokina lenses with curiosity. I rarely here a report on them though. Thanks for that,. and do let us know if you get some of your pics uploaded on the internet.

I just bought this same lens. Have you had any problems with it? Some others have noted some issues with the Sigma lens causing their 10D and D60 to freeze, requiring the battery removal to get it going again. I haven't had any problems myself, but it the feedback isn't very good, I can still return the lens to the reseller. Your feedback would be appreciated.
thanks,

I have been using Sigma 24-70 2.8EX and I am happy with the pictures. It is sharp enough if you stopped down a little bit, but still wide open is useable.
Some people say 28-70 2.8EX is better, and I actually tried before, but it had FF problem, so I cannot comment on the sharpness.
The problem of 24-70 is the filter size. 82mm filter is kinda expensive. I still don't have CPL yet. But overall, good value.
Thanks.

Run while you still can! ;)
Without kidding, I have the Sigma 28-70/2.8 EX and used to be rather pleased with it. That is, until I went digital (used in on a EOS30 until that time). Here is the list of problems I ran into (using it on a D30, but noticed the same things on a 10D when trying out once):
- Lots of apochromatic abberation on the "long" end (yup, it's an APO lense, but I think Sigma forgot the "not" word here :D)
- Soft until stopped down to f5.6 or more
- Slow focusing
- Noisy
- Uses a lot of power (drains batteries)
- Fairly much barrel distortion on the short end
I decided to trade it for Canon L glass as soon as I've got the money for it. That would be any day now :)

Surely for a Canon body the best 28-70/2.8 lens at any price is a Canon L.

So I have to ask. Where do you know that takes trades like this? I'd like to trade mine also, but don't want to pay full retail when i can get it through BH cheaper. Is my only option to sell mine outright? if there is a place that takes trades please let me know what experiences you have had.

Better try and sell the Sigma instead of trading it. I got quoted around $250 (lense is
