Post your best 70-200 2.8L pics and show off what this lens can really do. Portriats are especially of interest to me, especially full body from head to toe shots at 2.8 if possible, thanks.

Not a portrait but something I posted recently (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134082) taken with the 70-200 2.8 L IS.

I love this lens.

Why would you want to shoot a picture of someone head to toe? That's a mistake many people make, especially if you hand a camera to a stranger and say "take our picture for us". For a full body shot at 200mm you'd have to be standing a fair distance away.

It's a good lens, if you need that focal length and can afford it, buy it. If not get the Sigma.

Really like the first two by clicky, what post processing was used?
It looks (with my untrained eye!) like some work was done on the eyes in the first one how did you get them looking such a striking blue?

I have been trying for a while now to get a dark/moody look like the second photo was it taken late evenin/early night? what effects were used in ps if any!??

Sorry for sounding like such a novice!

Here's one:
http://kmb.1g.fi/kuvat/Indica/_MG_8712.jpg/full
It displays the softness which f/2.8 and a long focal length brings to head shots outside the DoF (I especially like the visual sofness of her lips caused by the shallow DoF. And I said visual softness, so skip the apparent jokes ;)). I very much like the effect - just make sure that eyes are in focus.

Taken with the the IS version, which is advertised to have a redesigned aperture-thingie (i guess it has more blades) and therefore nicer bokeh, although I don't think it would have mattered in this case.

Yes - I must admit that some "adjustments" has been done in PS. In the first picture I've copied her eyes to a new layer, use the eraser to gently wipe away everything exept the iris. Once this is done you can add any color (image adjustments, hue/saturation), in this case I've added a little touch of blue. She's gazing at a blue summer sky so little correction/addition was needed. The second image is "normally" processed from a raw-file. WB and levels adjusted.

Yes, it's making me want to upgrade! The unfortunate part is that that will never happen for me, and I do mean never. Well...at least not in the next ten years. It's nice to know that the f/4 holds similar if not the same quality to it's big brother.

These following shots were a great test for the 70-200mm 2.8L IS.

These were taken at the winterfest of lights in Ocean City MD. Basically this is a park with Christmas light displays set up for show. The only way to get around the park to look at all of the lights is to ride a BUMPY TROLLEY!

I took these pictures of lights hanging out the window of this moving trolly with shutter speeds ranging from 1/40 to 1/80, and 90% of them came out with no camera shake  .

Here is a small selection........

This was taken with a relatively low shutter speed to give some movement, flash was blipped in to freeze other parts.

Nice shots everybody.
I am sure any lens can produce great results, in all that archive samples from different lenses i can see great results for all lenses, i know we took bad shots as well and deleted them (or hide them as i do) but sure with correct right settings and timing and place and composition it will amaze all.

Canon EF 80-200/2.8L, ISO 1600, 1/160s @ f/2.8. RAW, DPP: sharpening '3', EC +0,5 or so. No further sharpening.

why is this crop so rough? is the F4 better when it comes to cropping?

Honestly, the pics in this thread are amazing but I don't see enough of a difference in these pics and in any threads of the 70-200mm F4 L to warrant the extra expense?

my 2 cents

This was taken with my 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM. The image is made up of 4 vertical images stitched together in CS 3. I used this lens instead of my UWA for it's corner to corner sharpness and it being my sharpest lens.

the difference between teh f/4 and the f/2.8 is the extra stop of useable light. the 2.8 allows it to be much darker and still useable, then you add the IS so that you can drop hand-holdable shutter speeds to even lower. plus f/2.8 allows for a perfect bokeh

I know. Every time one of these archive posts comes open again, I inevitably end up wanting to get that lens. The same would true with the kit lens, had it not come with my Digital Rebel. Good photographers can make people want to buy any lens (and I mean any lens).
