View Full Version : C1LE: noise reduction?

Since my fav PS profile LinearSharpen, by Mr. Pekka Saarinen, would not have a 10D version. I am looking for a replacement. In deciding between between PSRP and C1LE, I would pick the latter but I am wondering if C1LE has the capability to lower image noise.

TIA.

Why don´t you just download the 15 day trial version, and discover for yourself if this is the program you need.

Cheers

Griffin,

C1LE does have noise reduction: four levels. It's somewhat of a pain to use because it's a global setting. The current setting is what is applied to an image when it is added to the development queue. This means there's no easy way to remember what setting what applied to the picture after the event.

On the plus side, it seems to work very well.

Thank you Roger,

I finally got the trial after taking a trip to the park.

First, it is not as slow as some claim (I have a 1.2G Athon Thunderbird w/640MB RAM). It is easy to use but I don't realize you can actually "save changes" to the original RAW file! Well, that can never be done in BB.

However, it seems to me that I still need PS and BB together, especally I cannot rename the files and also I cannot resize the output. I am not sure before I try PS RAW.

BTW, your web site is great.

Griffin,

You're not actually saving changes to the raw files with C1LE. There is a work file that holds all the settings for each image - one per image, very small so you can leave them on your system. Watch out for the previews though; these are 2 mb each and can eat up space, if you don't housekeep.

You can rename individual output files: check the top of the Develop tab, but batch rename is a pro version feature as is resizing.

It does have a nice option that you can develop the same image multiple times with different settings, and the software auto adds "-1", "-2", etc.

PhaseOne having started with C1 DSLR for high-end cameras like the 1Ds have arbitrarily added constraints to distinguish the 99 buck LE from the 499 buck Pro.

Roger, I check again: if one uses "save" in the collection, there is a small "green box" on the top left corner of the thumbnail -- this, afaik, is not mentioned in the help file. I am not sure, so I go back to BB and view the files in question and find that the CRW file is altered, similar to the way I alter in C1LE, but one of them messes up with the colour-balance.

I think I should post this to C1LE Support Forum, too.

Thank you.
