I was wondering if anyone heard of adding new features such as a timelapse option to cannon cameras? Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to write code for something of this sort. but getting the right language and getting it to the camera pose a problem(if it's even possible).

All the firmware is encrypted, the only changes anyone has made is to unlock functionality in the 300D/DRebel firmware.
It would be nice to release open source firmware on the camera, I am surprised no one has done it, although I doubt Canon ever would.
Look what it did for Linksys with their open source AP's!

I'd not trust an open firmware without a LOT of evidence it works well. Even Canon has enough trouble writing software for their cameras, having to release firmware updates regularly.
For time lapse just get the correct canon remote, it does it for you.
