Okay - I read Jerry's write up..... I now know I hate shooting through the chain link - tennis was okay - but this is different. I kinda figured out the pitching thing... but for on field action... I seemed to always be in the wrong place. I am gonna need some advice in that area..... any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Great timing! I like #1 and #6, although not seeing the bag in the tag shots leave a quesiton whether they were safe.

Curious...don't the women wear caps??

Nice sharp shots, what where you using for those shots?

Mount Airy Ed, I have watched plenty of my girlfriends games and tourneys and I have never seen them wear em.

Great shots. #1 and #2 look almost identical, just from different angles. I really enjoy your work. I lived in NC several years ago before moving back to Arizona. When I look at your posts I keep thinking I need to get back there.

Mark - You nailed #s1 - 4. As for #5 everything about it is excellent except I doubt that she put the ball into play -- looks more like a foul tip to me. It might be a personal thing but if she fouled it then IMO it's not a keeper. #6 -- yup, wrong place, but you can't be everywhere. Two full faces on this one would have made for portfolio stuff. Plays at the plate are probably the most difficult shot to nail and IMO you nailed #7. The only two questions are 1) Was the runner called safe or out and 2) Did your clients get the call or was it against them. The answer to 2) would determine if the shot is marketable. I don't think you're a bit early in #8 -- a split second later and she might have been watcing the ball meet her bat and you'd have shot the top or her helmet rather than her face.

Nothing to offer about where to be -- you can't possibly cover every play of every game. I didn't get a good action shot on any of the bases last weekend. It seemed like every time I got set up for an action shot the action either happened someplace else or someone got between me and the shot.

Arizona and North Carolina..... man, talk about polar opposites. Thanks for the comments...

No caps.... at least at this game. This is really my first crack at softball but my sister-in-law played a lot and they did wear visors. None of these ladies did though...

Thanks for looking and commenting.

I was using my old standby stuff... a 20D with a 120-300 sigma attached. Just love the setup. Thanks for the comments....

Hey Jerry... thanks for the review. 5 was a pop into the infield... but nothing really came of it. I was mostly interested in seeing if I could pull the image up. The tag at home (#7) - late - and the wrong team scored. Shooting batters was imensly hard - could not find a good spot. And the best play of the day for the "right" team.. I missed as the SID and I were chatting behind the backstop. He enjoyed ribbing me about it.. but he also wasn't expecting me today - so todays stuff was a bonus. You just got me thinking about this and it was an amazing day here - so I headed on out for an extended late lunch. Thanks again for the comments and don't evey hold anything back.... I need to learn this. cheers.

EDIT: Oh yeah - todays lesson learned - for pitching shots... manual focus is the only way to go.

Fun sport huh?......moves a bit faster than baseball. I really dig #7.....very cool with the ump in there. Too bad the second base shot you cant see her face.......oh well cant be every where all the time. But really great shots here......nice job.

Okay - I read Jerry's write up.....

I'd be happy with sharp shots like that....perhaps this year. Maybe Jerry's write up will help me, can you post a link to it?

It would be a dream sport to shoot if they would get rid of those dang chain link fences.... or at least screen the outfield ones. The nice thing is you do get a chance to setup.... you just got to guess right where the play will be. Thanks for looking and commenting!

Yep..I know what you mean about that pesky chain link. I can't wait till you get a couple more games under your belt. I'm sure your going to have some awesome shots. Plus college players skill is a bit above the girls that I shoot right now. I've been chatty with the JC coach over here by me, I wonder if she'd let me shoot some of their games......hmmmmm. Anyway, make sure you post more of the games that you shoot.

Great shots Mark. #4 is my personal favorite. I understand the frustration with the fence, I have to shoot through one as well. I just decide what I want to shoot, then place my lens against the fence in a good 'hole' and take a few photos. Then I move to another hole. It is sooo hard to move around with the action, if not impossible.

pdignard ~ thanks.... I actually thought I was a little late, but it seems to be playing well. Sometimes it is good to be wrong. Thanks.

Superdiver ~ thanks for commenting

burntbizzkit ~ thanks Chris.... they just pinged me this morning and said they would like to set up for me to shoot some more. Argh!.... I like the sport... it is loads of fun... but more fences. You can really only setup for one shot and that is it. Thanks for commenting.
