My father was a professional photographer for 50 years. Starting and ending with film. His last 15 years were spent with the Hasselblad 2 1/4 format. I his son, was a buyer of photographic talent which included film sometimes his and early digital. My father never taught me photography except for some very basic rules. I began a serious interest in the hobby five years ago and quickly chose the digital path. My Dad has seen the results of good digital work and accepts that results are very acecptable, I have always owned two digcams and try to put the older one in his hand to try. To this date he has only taken two digital shots. He feels they just don't feel right or maybe it's sinful to not be working with film in a box behind a lens. Rather silly I know but I know a few other pros who are the same way and all their kids are shooting digital.

My dad wasn't really a pro photog, though he did use his camera occasionally as part of his work (shooting accident scenes, etc.). He still shoots occasionally and still has an A1 (he recently sold has Leica R4). He's adamently against digital, and computers in general. He's 79 years old, so I wouldn't even think of pressing the issue.

I think I'll be giving him my Elan II soon, since he's experessed an interest in it.

Tom, Sam- I'm 67+ years at this point so I can understand a bit of this. I grew up before there was Television, automatic transmissions were an expensive option....etc.
Because of work related conditions, I got into Cinematography, and still (medium format and plane cameras). In the seventies, video took over and became viable, in the 80's computers.
Basically you either accepted and learned the new technologies with all the changes and frustrations or you let them beat you.
Yes, I remember "the-good-old-days" and often regret their passing. However I live in todays world and look forward....
we all have choices.

I learned to drive using a 1954 Chrysler and took my first pictures with a viewfinder camera using B&W film. I drive a hybrid car now and bought my first digital last year (Canon Pro-1). I'm 66 and haven't decided that any technology is not "too new" for me to try.

As my niece told me the other day " I'm glad you are not one of those geezers who think as old as they look"
