Another shot from Monsters of Rock in Nuremberg Germany. This is one of the first concerts that Def Leppard played after Rick Allen lost his arm.

I saw Def Leppard in Bournemouth (UK) 2 years or so ago - they still rock!

I really like Def Leppard. What was the story behind Rick's arm?

believe it or not, his seatbelt cut his arm off when he got into a crash (he was driving fast in his lamborghini). they actually tried to reattach it, but it got too infected and he almost died.

Wow, he must be driving really really fast. Luckily the seatbelt didn't cut his neck because the belt is like a double edge sword. So it's either the arm or the neck.

hmm...looks like rock n roll used to be pastel yellow and bright red patent leather pants...

I used to be a fan back in the late eighties. I was only a kid then.

anyway, Rick was driving a left hand drive Corvette on the country roads just outside Sheffield, and apparently some guy started overtaking and brake testing him. Because he was on the right (right) side of the road he was blindsided when he tried to overtake on a bend and swerved off hitting a wall sending the car into a field. he was thrown out of the car through the sunroof but unfortunately his arm stayed in the car. The microsurgery to sew it back on was initially successful, but infection meant it had to removed again.

This was actually the second time that I saw them in concert. The first time was in '83 when Rick had both arms. He was an great drummer than, and still is today.
