Here is a resized image and a "100%" crop from near the center. My 2xTC is a low end model. It does a pretty nice job, but the further compressed DOF and the loss of 2 full stops makes the focus more critical than ever. I will probably go to a Sigma or preferably Canon TC, and then probably only the 1.4x.

Here is the reduced size original. Generally the TC adds some softness and consequent loss of detail.

Hmm.. Was the autofocus point right on the bird?

Doesn't look too terribly bad, as long as I dont blow it up big. I was thinking about the 1.4, but a 400mm 5.6 is sooo nice :)

On this pictue the birds wing may have shifted the autofocus a little. But compared to the 200 without the TC for a similar size image, it is distinctly softer. Probably a higher quality TC would help. Of course with the 2xTC, it beomes a F5.6 400mm (but without the optics designed expressly for a 400).
