Trying out new Sigma 70-300 APO zoom first time today, shot this picture from my car, hand held.

Beautiful dog, though the pic looks a little on the soft side, or a little OOF (or should that be [W]OOF :-) ). Which part of the zoom range were you using?

Yes, I agree maybe not 100% in focus, but I thought it worth including because he came over so well. I used the 350mm end (effectively 480 mm with 1.6 factor).
