I started out with a F828, But alas you cant change the glass. Going to DSLR the second best move I ever made. The first was marring Sandra

You're welcome. You are really taking to this SLR stuff! Oo you still use your other digital? I try to use my G1 Canon for ir stuff. Cheers, Ian! I'm good at bluffing with the SLR stuff ;)

Yeah - I still use the 717 - but only on the 3rd bluemoon of the year. I should really sell it or something...

I picked up the F717 put the filters on took a picture took the filters off and packed it all up. Oh well thats out of my system now. Thanks it saved me $500. Glad I saved you the anguish of spending needless cash on a non SLR when it can easily go towards a new lens. Priorities! ;)

Funny thing is in times gone by I used to covet the F717 and its predecessor the F707, as the F707 was top of the line when I got my Sony P&S. The 717 has only been out for a little under 2 and a half years in NZ. I almost bought the 707, but hesitated enough to see the release of the 717 and buy that instead. It was only cool until the DSLR's (such as Nikon) decided to reach a greater audience and drop the price and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeveryone started buying them (in my circle)

....The first was marring Sandra  I'm almost positive you mean marrying ;)

Womans a saint. 12 years next month. She deserves a nobel peace prize. I did say before we got married that I wasnt the easist person to get on with.

That old saying "his bark is worse than his bite" isnt true for me "let sleeping dogs be" is much better.

As for woofer and meow type people, I'd have a zoo if laws and space allowed. All creatures are cool to me :) After all, I was that kid that rescused rats and mice of our cats, and saved birds from the pavement after a death by powerline (already inevitably dead, but I didn't care)

Good decision and congratulations!

Btw, I read an article somewhere that the "new car" smell might have adverse effects on health... It may be best to "air" it a while or drive with the windows down for a few days...

Zoom, zoom, zoom!

Nice, when do we get to test drive it :D

Iv never been a big fan of Mazdas, they lack consistancy in thier model range, But the Mazda 3 is one of those cars that I never heard anyone say anything bad about.

I think Mazda got it sorted as to speak, their current line up seems pretty good, I really like some of the new paint options too!

Its always amazed me that the same company can produce a car as fantastic as the RX7 (all of them) and as bad as the old 323. Its like the engineers and the accountants have never been able to get along, and to stop them killing each other they have been allowed to have thier own product lines.

It seems that they have got it sorted now though, with a consistant image across the model range, practicle fun. Unfortunatly they are about 20 years behind the rest of the Japanese auto industry in havnig a consistant brand image, and it took a total take over by Ford and lots of European input to make it happen.

Now hows that for going OT, we are discussing Automotive philosophy.

I resent the 323 comment . MY 1st and 2nd cars were both the GTX turbo Familias. I rolled the 1st, that's a whole 'nother story.. The 2nd of the two I had for 7 years. I never blew anything on it, but that was probably due to my pedantic insistance that the oil and filters were changed every 5000km and the oil feed pipes were cleaned every 10,000kms.
;)

Si - Blue, but you weren't asking me

Yeah, the metalic Blue one. Mid spec GSX Sedan. The budget would not stretch to the SP23. Auto - I would have gone manual, but my wife will drive it mostly and she wanted auto. I will pick it up either tommorow or friday, depending on when the paperwork arrives from the bank. All our accounts are still held in Napier so we have to wait for the paperwork to go backwards and forwards by snail mail. We would move them to Auckland, but our personal banker there is so damn good, and the one we end up with in Auckland might not be. So we will leave them there and put up with the mail delays. They were supposed to arrive today, but good old NZ Post are slow! Worst case we can do it by fax and still have the car for the weekend.

that was probably due to my pedantic insistance that the oil and filters were changed every 5000km and the oil feed pipes were cleaned every 10,000kms.

Right now I am wishing we did that! Anyone want to buy a nice Subaru Legacy GT going cheap.......it's got one near new turbo (don't ask about the other one!)......anyone?

The mess actually started when Ford tied up with Mazda to try to get a bigger foothold in the Japanese market... one of those East meets West tragedies where the partners would not back down because they had "a better way of doing things"

Yeah, the previous models were not very inspiring! They seem to have got it right though with the currents crop. The 3, 6, RX8, and even the new MX5 are all very nice cars. The 2 is not bad as small cars go either.
One thing that realy hit me while looking at cars is how bad the current Toyota Corolla is. The seat is so uncomfortable that I refussed to even drive it, and Pete said that when he drove it, he couldn't wait to give it back! That and they are ugly!

Hmmm... I should send this feedback to my sister who works with Toyota -- her bosses listen to what she has to say... and knowing Toyota who are big on brand loyalty, they may seriously look at fixing things. Afterall, the Toyotas have the highest resale values among the Jap cars... barring Subaru of course...

This was a 2003ish wagon, 1.8 VVTi Manual, a real bread and butter car, not a very good gear box, and heading down the motorway it felt like the motor was going to blow up, I was looking for 8th gear

Next up was a 2003 Camry 2.4 VVTi Auto, a completely different car, quite nice actually!

iKirst
1st of March 2006 (Wed), 17:07
hehe - Tarrifs were lifted on cars, prices dropped and manufacturers started cutting corners.
You got one of those cars.
Bit of a joke on wheels really. All very unfortunate for you, Pete. I didn't mean to compare the Rollerrari to current Corolla standards.
Mine just happens to be one of 1000 that they decided to do a little extra work to, way back in the mid 90's. VVTi was a new thing too. And the motor in mine is the trial 4A-GE Blacktop. Gotta say, I need at least another gear too, though

Anyhoo - I digress (as usual..)

I agree with you on the Camry (even the Avensis is pretty nice) ;)

but toymotors do just run and run, the only issue I had with my old celica (except for the fact it was slow) was trouble with the leads breaking down, replaced the leads and it was mint again
