Hi all,
seeing as we've finally been given a move date of next Friday, thought I'd get my A into G and ask if we can do a sunset/early evening roof shoot from the top of the building I work in (Akl CBD) I've asked if we can do this either Monday (20th) or Tuesday (21st) evening and the noises I'm getting back are positive. Can I have a show of hands as to who'd be interested? I'm hoping to keep the numbers down below 8 if possible as they're likely not to want a huge group up there....
If it goes ahead (our people still have to get an okay from their people etc.) I'd like to be there at 8pm-ish

Good stuff! probably meet outside work at 7:45. Looks like the Mgre bridge work might not happen thru the week - they've realised what a cockup it caused on Saturday!

But, putting in an offer counts as important:D so we know that you aren't trading us for something else:D :D :D Good luck!!! I know what it's like... LOL -- I sometimes wish I was in IT. But I would have pretty huge shoes to fill if I was the next guy in line:) so I don't envy him/her.

I guess that I just have to be content with hanging out with them IT folks:D

For what its worth I'm in sales and marketing... but my field is quite narrow, and a little "technical" -- food ingredients...

The technical part includes pulling computers apart too... then trying to put them back together and hope it works:D You know you can't trust the controller or the CFO to play IT support:D -- they'd find out how much the computers really cost and put in a note to downgrade:rolleyes:

Well we are going to put in an offer well below what we can borrow, so who knows!
The worst thing is Amanda will be using all her savings as a deposit, which means I no longer have the incentive to marry her, which means we are both going to have to do some saving, or Im going to have work my butt of for my production bonus.

OK, here's a challange for some of you tonight. Whoever gets the best shot of me with my new 70-200 for me to use as my new avatar moves to the front of the line to borrow it for testing.

Judges decision is final and no correspondance will be entered into. Entries surrender the right to use the image as an avatar to me.

actually I was more thinking about getting shots from the roof before the sunset itself. Seeing as we're moving out Friday it's likely the last chance to do this...

Master, I shall follow your footsteps and under-expose (from 1/3 to 1/2 stop):D

Re the loan: that is a good idea, i.e., to put in a lower offer to what you can borrow. Maximising the loan can be a killer in the long run. We borrowed $60K less than what our mortgage broker and the bank would allow us... and I'm sure glad that we did.:) Our only advantage then (Oct-Nov 2000) was that the housing market was at its lowest.

If you don't mind my suggesting, have a look at fortnightly re-payments if you can arrange it with your bank. I've discussed this with good friends in the banking industry and they say that this is the quickest way to pay off the loan... but they won't tell you that if they don't know you:confused:  Making lump sum payments, at the end of the term, also speeds things up... by at least 5 years... and depending on how much you re-pay.

Good luck again!

Young one, don't be afraid of shooting manual, and ignoring the meter.
Shoot the historgram, chimp lots, don't be afraid to blow the highlights, spikes are good. Break the rules and you will do well :)

Ill have to talk with the brooker about fortnightly repayments, she's talking monthly I think.

The house buying was interesting, we offer 350, the counter offered with 379.
Hmmmm, We might counter offer with 360 and say thats it, not interested in negotiating. (we only offered 350 hoping they would want to negotiate, and have a reasonable counter).

Anyway, after that bit I went up Pt View Dr and got some spectacular shots of the sun set.

Well, one is mounted, and it just fits in my car, so Its not too hard. I wouldlnt want to do it 15 times tho. Perhaps everyone who is interested could meet somewhere so I only have to get it out once.

Failing that, I have another couple sitting rolled up in a tube here, very easy to transport.

Looks like it's going to have to be my RAM then. I tried processing a pano on Panorama Maker 3.0 and it took at least 5 - 10 minutes to do it. Have you tried using this software. I find it quite good and it allows you to tweak your pics with matching points so that the end result is "seamless" The software came free. It also has an auto exposure compensation facility to help the process. I can burn it onto a CD if you want to try it.

Cheers!

John, Thanks for the offer. There is plenty of good, free software out there your right - however the sort of work im doing is not your average 3 shot panorama. I dont think anything that takes a mere 5-10 minutes is going to have the same result as a few hours hard work in photoshop.

Cool -- the one I use can take up to 6 -10 pics and then merge... and then tweak. You'll be surprised at how good the software actually is. Good luck!

Whew! Glad you got the cost of dinner sorted (sort of). MattL ('panoman'?) A nice pano indeed. Wazza with that SIGMA, looks like he's waiting for someone to show...I mean, for the cloud formation to change slightly. Great sunset shots John (#1)and Scott. Could hang nicely on the wall. Wazza, those are seriously sharp photos of Pete and Scott(?) and just a brilliant shot of the skytower! iKirst, nice gallery of photos - I particularly like your shot of the team in action on the rooftop. The shadows against the building add a nice effect. And where was Duncan? (I've heard of "Where's Wally?" jigsaw puzzles...) Just sorry I couldn't make it for the evening.

Funny thing is in times gone by I used to covet the F717 and its predecessor the F707, as the F707 was top of the line when I got my Sony P&S.
