OK, the 2nd Thursday of every month we do an Acoustic Circle at a friends guitar shop. This month we did it tonight because of a house concert last Thursday. I took my new glass, the 24mm-70mm f/2.9L USM and the 85mm f/1.8 USM and took these shots.
The third pic was taken with Auto White Balance (I think), the rest were taken with Custom White Balance, I took a shot of the ceiling and used that. I was at an ISO of 1600 in AV mode. I had good shutter speeds and plenty of light. I wish I knew the "easy" way to show you guys the settings for each picture.
I'd love some feedback, specifically about sharpness. I may be overly concerned about it. I tweaked with Unmask Sharp in the first pic, the others were reduced using "Save for Web" in Elements 2.0, with no changes in PS.
Thanks in advance, don't be afraid to be brutal!

This is just so you get an idea of the venue.

That looks like fun. I like the group shot and the last frets shot the most -it has such nice use of bokeh.

I think my DOF was to small on the last, I wish I had gotten the thumb in focus.
Thanks

Yeah but if you had the thumb... well maybe you're right.
Here's a shot of a guitarist in Aussie I did last month:

I like it with out the thumb in focus. When I looked at the picture the first time, I didn't even notice that the thumb wasn't "in tune". Maybe, as a guitar player, I'm more interested in the fingering, than the placement of the thumb :)
I say keep it, your really showing the front of the guitar neck, not whats behind it!!!

Yeah, I like that last one, as well; nicely done.

I think #7 ought to be called C9.;) But anyway, I like the wedding band in that shot, some guys think they won't be able to play with one of those on their hand.
Cheers

Boy, you got that right.
Hey, Taygull, what brand guitar is that in the last shot (which is very nice, by the way)?

I missed these earlier and some aren't showing for me. I am really drawn to acoustic, preferably something bluegrass or folksie ... not at all like the bands I shoot! I expect to be shooting Brooks & Dunn on Friday night. Oh, and if it is more images than we want to see we'll just hit STOP! Link in as many as you like.

Not sure why you can't see them, I use imageshack and I can see all of them.
Thanks!

I can see them this morning! And now I see why everyone likes that last one ... should be an advert! And again, I find this ever so appealing ... maybe get a little closer on head shots and try to get those guitar heads with something a little wider.

please expand, not sure what you mean?
what about this shot? I don't like the upper right corner, I need to go back and tinker with that some more.

Oh, I like this, too. anyway, I was really talking about images like #5 in which the guitar neck/head is cut off.

I can probably fix that with a crop, I was really trying to keep the focus on the hand and just blur the headstock and background. I'll check and re-crop if I can.
Thanks!
