hey repo, thanks. i do it mostly all in photoshop.

the biggest trick is big, soft, natural light. i do a lot of curves adjustments - set to the cross processed preset, and then adjust the opacity down to anywhere from 30-50%. i also do a bit of dodge and burn work.

alt+click a new layer in photoshop and be sure to set the new layer blend mode to overlay, and add a 50% neutral (gray) fill, which should be doable in the pop-up menu when you alt-click. set your paintbrush to a huge, soft size, and paint black and white to dodge and burn. i add a vignette and also dodge the center quite a bit.

i also desaturated a good deal, added some contrast, etc. good luck!

Just picked one of these up used, traded my t2i for the 50 1.4 plus $500 cash, then drove across town and got a used 7D! I'm a happy camper...

Think this is at 1.4, playing around with the off camera flash commanded by the 7D popup...love both the new body and the new lens. Took one of my favorite pictures ever of my fiance already, I'd post but she wouldn't want to be on the internet :cool:

Shooting around 1.4 or so helps a lot with that issue.

It's made me want the 50 L again -- I may just have to convince the girlfriend that it's worth a Christmas present ;) Oh and if anyone was wondering -- Her eyes were just like that. ZERO photoshop of any sort was done to her face / eyes / etc.

These Scandium S&W's are nice, yep. I was trying to figure out how to get a similar shot but with the laser on, thinking I'd have to do two exposures and then merge them in Photoshop or something - one like this, then put a clamp on the grip to activate the laser and take the 2nd shot.

I really need some training in Photoshop....or a PP mentor!

thanks, I'm leaning toward doing as much in camera as possible so I wanted to use the gun's actual laser and maybe intro some smoke into the pic to make the beam visible...

I've only played with this lens briefly, and only indoors so far, but it seems to be taking some sharp pics. And the f/1.4 is a lot of fun.

Both shot on the 450D, only PPing done was white balance and RAW sharpening boosted to 4.

Shot a bunch of the same shot at different aperatures, and suprisingly, the only one I saved was the one at f/1.4.... Pretty sharp considering the camera was only an arm's length away, and I used a wireless remote for the trigger.....

adding to Jordans comment, the mathematics of DOF reveal that the further away a subject is, the deeper the depth-of-field becomes.

I think Jordan's copy was made by God, the rest of our's by his angels :p
