Why the northbound freight was going so darn sloooooow. :lol: :lol:
if you look why up the line you can see the southbound freight coming. This is mainly a single line track with passing sidings. The road I was on happens to be at one of those sidings, and the northbound freight was getting on..

Finially they pass and I can get going again.

Great color and exposure in those shots. What lens? The first shot looks farily wide.

Nice photos - and good to see pictures of a short line in action :D
I'm guessing Connecticut Southern Railroad (which doesn't appear in my Shortline Guide :( ) using a leased SD40-2 from CEFX.

Thanks so much Jon, and John;
Jon; I used my trusty Sigma 18-125mm 3.5 DC lens I've been more than pleased with it, It does tend to be a little soft at the extremes.
I used an ISO 200, seems like I have that as my default:rolleyes: f10 @ 1/250 shot with 18mm.
John; The Connectiut Southern runs from New Haven CT to Springfield MA.

Did you check out my other post of the CSOR freight heading northbound at the exact same time?

We don't see many freight trains in the UK - when I was in Canada and the US I was amazed at the size of the engines and lenght of the vehicle. Your shots of trains always bring back great memories Sandy - now if I could get the whistle going......

Thanks Damian, Some of our engines can be very big, and the freight trains can be very long, I've counted on some over 100 cars and 3 engines and this for a short line.

I counted a 135 and 2 engine train here before.

Yes - I had a 'doh' moment as soon as I posted, as I then found your previous post! Oh well, at least I was on the right track (!) - and many thanks for the additional info. :D
Incidentally I also use the Sigma 18-125 but had to send the first one back as it was incredibly soft. Current version came direct from Sigma UK and is fine, but yesterday acquired a Canon 24-105 ......... ;)
