These little critters are always "bouncing" around at the Santa Barbara Zoo. I finally managed to get one to sit still for me long enough. I like this one because he turned his head around and the DOF was good to me.
Any comments on a different technique or composition?

Patrick, I like this shot, nicely done.
At the zoo (check my Bronx zoo pics on pbase) you take what the animals feel like giving, or you wait them out until they do something spectacular. If you are there alone, you can wait, if with family and or friends you have to take what you get (usualy the case).
I like this composition, nice shot!

You have done very well with this shot.
Meercats do jump around a lot. Hyperactive.
Strangely in the wild, in Africa, they are easier to photograph.
That is because they always have at least one lookout posted and this guy can usually be photographed.
One also has the advantage of sunny conditions which
of course one doesn't have with caged animals.
Your shot is very good and having him turn around for you was great.
Your timing was spot on.

Thanks guys. It did look like he was sort of a lookout even if he was in a zoo! I couldn't belive my luck but I didn't have impatient little nephews running around yelling at the critters either so I could wait for a good shot which actually came quite fast!
