I have a simple question:
i have plugged in the USB cable into my computer and to the port on my 350d to download images i took last night off the flash card and ive noticed on the little LCD screen on the camera its flashing "BUSY". Ive managed to download the pics off the card but now the camera is doing nothing now and its still flashing "BUSY". Is this normal??
i dont understand why its flashing "BUSY" when the cable is simply plugged in and all the images have been downloaded onto the computer...
if someone could let me know that would be great.

I don't use direct camera to pc connection for downloads, finding a cheap usb card reader much simpler. Perhaps just the fact that you have the usb cable plugged into the camera is causing the light to flash.

unplug it and it should no longer do that I would think. maybe if you start remote capture the lcd will go back to normal as well.

This is normal when connected to the computer. After you are finished uploading pictures to your PC:
1. Close camera window
2. Turn off Camera.
3. Unplug cable from camera.
This has alwasy worked great for me. If your camera is still showing busy, try taking out the battery / put back in. Then reformat your Memory card via camera menu.

oh just so you know the BUSY is not flashing once it is disconnected from the computer.. only when connected... but it flashes BUSY even when all the images have downloaded to the computer and its idle doing nothing but still plugged in.. is that normal?

yes. like a running car, even when you are in "P" park, you engine is still idling. Same idea. nothing to worry about.

Perfectly normal, the car in idle is a good analogy.

I had the same thing happen with a 5D that I rented. We were going to use it for remote capture direct to the laptop. But everytime we plugged in the USB, it flashed busy on the top LCD and would not allow us to do anything with the camera, either using the camera or through the remote software.
I hooked up my 20D and it worked fine, no busy flashed on it's LCD.
Weird.

I have a 30D and cannot get the pictures off the card. As soon as I plug in the USB cable the camera starts flashing "busy" and nothing can stop it. The computer does not recognize the camera when this happens.

I had the same problem:
1. I took my computer back to the shop (still under warranty) and it was discovered the CF card reader was defective - I had never had occasion to use it in 10 months.
2. Even with the new CF card, the pics wouldn't download to the computer - had to install the CF card reader software first. Now it works.

Just put the CF card in my Powershot A95 and have the same problem. Camera LED flashes and nothing happens.

For whatever retarded reason, Canon refuses to make their camera devices look like USB storage devices to an uninformed PC. Unless the proper Canon driver is installed on a PC, the PC will never be able to read the camera, and the camera will always show "busy" in the LCD screen for a while.
The only solution is to either downdload from the CF card directly, or properly load the Canon drivers before plugging in the camera. Either way, Canon does NOT support USB industry standards, and if you happen to use anything other than Windows or Mac, you are screwed if you wish to download directly from your camera.
Too bad, as Canon makes awesome camera gear.....
