i'd love this thing, sell my 5D, and use this forever and ever (untill Photokina)
40mm 1.2 L interesting...
I like the EYE CONTROL feautre... sounds interesting, if i got it right, where you look, is where it focuses? what i need in the camera -- is a setting to focus on background or foreground... (i am lame, i know)
I DONT think its photoshopped.. IMHO

That is either the real deal or the best Photoshop hack I've seen. :)
But it looks familiar.. was this hack circulating around Summer '05 as well? Or is this a new one?
3D has been the dream camera since the D30 and 1D were still on the shelves.. (of course the dream specs have changed every season to keep up with modern tech.. but the idea has been the same.)
If this thing were real,. a lot of 5D AND 1Ds owners may be really steamed ;)

hmmm, seen this before. its a hash of a nikon and canon in one...and the prism is a bit too small by all counts. still if it is true I'll eat my words, and buy one :D

The bottom grip is straight off a Nikon D2X.

The 40mm looks shopped to me. Slightly uneven and not following the curve exactly.

If you look at the larger picture and zoom in, the L on the 40mm is crooked and surrounded by a square of a different color from the lens.
It's a photoshop.

and why exactly would you need a 40mm?
i though that there was 50 and 80 that were useable

Look at the right had side around the grip, not quite right there, also there are some curved surfaces that mysteriously become flat, but then it still may be for real as it is a darn good job!

I looked at the D2X and it looks close but not that close.
[Edit: However, on closer examination, you just may be right. And I was so hoping it would be real, too.]

That image has been around for a month now. LIkely a photoshop job of a stock image.

How the Canon crew can keep these new upgrades a secret is amazing to me.

I must say I love the shape of this thing, real or not. I like the width of the 1d's, but it's got too much height for my tastes...I wouldn't mind sacrificing some of the portrait grip to save space.

I'm a bit surprised that the photographer that shot this image was allowed to use Phil Askey's lighting setup.

or may be it was him, someone just stole it from the server, some photographer which is a hacker as well.. but we're gonna have 40 L thats for sure :)

I frankly see absolutely no purpose in a 40 mm f/1.2L in Canon's lineup - especially one with a build similar to the 50/1.4. It's not like there's a huge gap between the two 35 mm lenses and the 2 50 mm lenses that are now available.
What they need is a better 50.

I'm more interested in the possible release of a 3D than a 40mm f/1.2.

Again, it's a photoshop job. Combined images of 5D, 1D & D2X & maybe a little 20D thrown in there as well.

Well Canon, someone took the time to PS it, why not do us a favor and make it already? By tomorrow if possible.

If it has eye control then it would be the biggest waste of £££ ever!
You ppl ever tried it...sounds good in practise...but its just....nerve racking!
It just when you compose and look around it refocuses....unless they solved it since the film days!
Good work on that PS....its so much fun doing stuff like that....

The size of the glass looks very small for what is supposed to be a 1.2...
To me it looks more like a 50 1.4 that has been PSed

So what's the Eye Control? Did Canon talk about this feature in any press releases? Or has it just been a rumor?

Disregarding the questionable image above, an uprated 5D could be called nothing else than a 3D, right?
more fps
1/250 or even 1/500 synch
Digic III
hmmmmm October 2006?

Nah it'd be the 5D Mk2, they might stick an 'N' on the end just for fun;)

Well why is there suddenly a $500 cash back on the 5D here in Australia? This always preceeds a new model here...presumably the 3D.

EOS 3D... That'd be nice, take pictures in 3D, like IMAX films. Oh wait, I've missed the point...

So what's the Eye Control? Did Canon talk about this feature in any press releases? Or has it just been a rumor?
It's a several year old feature that was on the Canon film cameras - you could get it on the consumer Elan IIe (the "e" was for eye controlled focus) and you can still get eye controlled focus on the current EOS 3 film body http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=213178&is=USA&addedTroughType=search Click to make the EOS 3 picture bigger on this B&H link and you'll see the Canon eye control logo.
I used this on my sister's Elan IIe. One of the keys was to go through the calibration process so that the camera could properly track where your eye was looking. With the calibration, it could really track your eye - a little freaky.
