No, I haven't posted in the wrong forum :p I have been known to wander outside "sports" from time to time...

I decided to go to the Imperial War Museum Duxford site yesterday to test out my replacement EF 24-105mm f/4L. I also needed to get some more practice using the colour tempertature meter and hand held light meter.

I thought I'd share a couple of the shots with you as I know there are some plane fans on here. If I have a criticism of Duxford it is that it is extremely crowded. They really need to get some more space so that you can see the aircraft properly. I did get the 17-40L out at one point to give myself some more shooting room, but I put it away again as the whole point of the exercise was to test the 24-105mm.

Wot no Canoes ?

I know exactly what you mean about the lack of space. I went there a few years back and said exactly the same thing.

All the major UK / European exhibits will move to the new Airspace building soon. It looks to be along the lines of the US Air Museum.

The lens looks fine to me, but what do i know? :)

Yeah, it’s impossible to tell anything about lens quality from images like these resized for the web. The originals look fine though so I am pleased. I was rather reluctant to return my original 24-105mm L as the optics on it were very good indeed. It supposedly suffered from this “flare fault” that all early samples of that lens had, but to be honest I had never seen it. Still, it’s all worked out well. I’ve even ended up with a spare hood, manual and soft case as I never sent those back with the original one.

The new building seems to be coming along, but there’s still a lot of work to do on it. I will probably re-visit once it’s complete.

Mmm... think I'll wander back to the wide open spaces of the motorsport world! ;) It's safer.
