I'm on a closely guarded budget after buying toys for my baby (the 10D)!
Or even step-by-step to reduce noise using Photoshop would be helpful.
Thanks everybody.

Those steps are valid to correct chroma noise.
Convert to LAB
Use SmartBlur or GaussianBlur (I prefer the first) over a and b channels
Reconvert to RGB

To reduce chroma noise (JPEG artifacts, primarily), it's faster and less destructive (converting to and from LAB can tweak your data) is to
Blur the image, then immediately Edit > Fade Blur and set the mode to Color, leaving amount at 100%. Gaussian blur is what I use, but Blur, Blur More, Smart Blur are all possibilities, depending on just how noisy the image is.
It's comparable to blurring both A and B channels in LAB but without two mode changes.

There are comercial Photoshop actions out there but this free one suited my need:

I doubt if the comercial ones do a better job. The only difference might be that the comercial ones are 'tweaked for eos 10d'. Dunno how the camera could affect this process but i didn't study the subject enough..
