View Full Version : WJireless Remote RC-1 vs. RC-5

In the back of my 350D manual, it lists these two remotes and states that RC-1 can take a picture immediately, the RC-5 waits 2 seconds.

Which of these two options would be your choice, and why?

I would see the need for both a cabled release type for behind-the camera shooting (portrait and/ or steadiness issues), and a wireless remote for taking our own family portraits so one of us doesn't have to rush back and forth.

Thanks,

Jessica

I'd say go for the RC-1. you can do with both functions: instant shooting or 2 second delay so you have a second (or 2) to hide the remote when you are in the picture.

With instant shooting, I never bought a cable release at all, because I just reach around the camera with the rc-1 remote and use that as the release.

Thanks Cathpah, that was helpful. When you reach around front of the camera with the RC-1, is off to the side "in front" enough for the wireless? I wouldn't want to risk bumping the lens in a hurry, for example, so would holding it a bit off to the side of the lens work? If the wireless could be used in this way, it would suit all my purposes and I would only need one device (the RC-1).

Thanks,

Jessica

Get the WIRE one, I had the WIRELESS and took it back for the cable.

I found sometimes the wireless would not work and sometimes shutdown the camera!!! but this was fixed with the last firmware update.

The cable can be extended if needed.

Yeah, holding it a few inches below and in front/around the side of the camera works just fine. now i must admit it doesn't work 100% perfectly everytime in the sense that there are a few times when i miss-aim or the button/sensor doesn't respond perfectly but that doesn't happen too often. Although the cabled one might be a bit nicer for that purpose, I didn't feel the need to even look into getting one (and I do love my camera accessories). the rc-1 works just fine for me.

Another advantage is when i am doing night shooting a lot of time i'll walk around elsewhere while the lens is taking a long exposure. if i had a cable release i'd have to pick up and put down the cable which could bump the camera which is the reason you're using the darn thing in the first place.

pick up an rc-1....you won't regret it. If its not perfect for everything, pick up a cable release. but the remote function sure comes in handy for placing yourself in the picture without worrying about some silly beeping timer.

Thanks Cathpah and you too Raymate... was very helpful. Thanks for taking time to respond. I think I will start off with RC-1 and see how things go.
