Hey there,

I really want to get a new 350D but people keep saying that a new canon may come out by end of Feb! I don't want to wait to buy the new camera but if i do wait for the new one to be released will the price of the 350D drop?
If so how much, does anyone have any knowledge of price drops from prevoius new releases etc?

It's my birthday on the 26th so i want to treat myself to my new SLR by then! Or should i wait?

any help/rumours will help

thanks

It's unlikely in the extreme that Canon will replace the 350D, whatever else they may decide to do. It's newer than the 1Ds II and the 20D by several months, so they're more likely to be replaced. Unless Canon keeps the 20D on the marketplace at a lower price after releasing a successor, the 350D prices won't have any reason to move.

'announce' ; maybe, but not in the 350 product line (not an entry model)
'release' (= in the shops) : not before April or May at earliest

We'll know everything here tomorrow, after the Canon press release.

Because there was an official announcement by Canon that they would be announcing something on the 21st.

What they would be announcing is the mystery and still open to rumors.

As to announcment and release, Canon has for the most part has had their DSLRs in the stores around 30 days after announcement. Most recent exception was 1DsMkII which was 60 days from announcement and supposedly caused by a small earthquake causing damage to secondary supplier at just the wrong time delaying needed parts for all but a very limited number of cameras for 30 days. Or so the story that got to me went after sorting through conflicting reports.

Do you have a link to the official press release? Just trying to seperate fact from rumor.

For what it is worth in Australia, Camera House, have listed the 20D as discontinued.

The most reliable rumor (from spanish canon site) prior to official announcement had orginally listed 70+ new product launches. The best I have been able to account for are 22 new products, where are the other 48+ new products?

At least they finally offcially let us know when the new good A3+ printers will be out. Had to go to European (versus Canon USA) to find out though. At least two of the newer printers will be out real soon in the meantime, but I might as well wait for the good ones.

The new printers are very interesting. Finally, Chromalife 100 inks find their way to a 13X19 inch printer.

Canon should make a Third option for the 350D. You can get Silver and Black. The third option would be a Metal black body similar to the 10D/20D. Yeah I know they'd never do that as the plastic body is almost the only big difference between the XT and the 20D.

I would have paid an extra $200 for a Metal XT though, and I probably would have kept it.

See if Jessops will price match for you.

Both http://www.warehouseexpress.co.uk and http://www.parkcameras.com have the 350D kit for £519, while Jessops have it for £579.

All the best
