Not the best scan in the world, but it's as good as it's going to get for now  It's plenty sharp though ;)

Can someone who has both the 85 / 1.8 and the 100 / 2.8 macro check to see if the 100's ET-67 hood will work on the 85? They both have 58mm filters, I believe.

I don't know about lens flare from the car since it's behind, perhaps from the snow though. However, I looked inside the lens and noticed a tiny speck on it, perhaps a bubble or dust? Would that cause this?

The 85 1.8 has a hood that "clicks" on. If the 100 is a "screw" on type, then they are not the same. Sorry, don't know the actual terms for this.
The first hood is for my 85 (clip-on), the second for my 200 (screw-on). Both genuine Canon hoods.

Just got mine today. One of the things I was worried about was people saying it’s too long for indoors. I live in 1100 square foot condo so I don’t have a lot of room to step back. Although it wouldn’t be the only lens id use inside its adequate for upper body shots and I can even get two people in with head and shoulders and a bit of background to boot. Its crazy how sharp this lens is and the colors are great. Focus is instantaneous and virtually silent. Lastly, the lens hood isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Fantastic photos!
The hood will not effect the light needed to take the photograph. It keeps stray light from entering the lens, resulting in better image quality in some situations and reduces or eliminates lens flare when a bright light source (ie the sun) is just outside of your frame.
Hoods are also the best protection you can have for your lens. It helps keep grubby fingers away from the front element and is the only real protection the front element has from impact if dropped hood-first. It will also absorb much of that impact, possibly coming loose or getting damages, but may save the lens from internal damage from shock.
I have hoods for all my lenses and use them whenever the lens is on the camera, even indoors.
They make big lenses look even bigger too, and chicks dig guys with big lenses, even if its just an illusion. ;)
EDIT: Oops, sorry, you're probably not worried about what the ladies think though.:o
And welcome to POTN!!!

Thanks so much for that explanation...I appeciate you taking the time. My main concern was that it may cut down on the light but it seems that isn't a factor. The other reasons to have one make a lot of sense. Many thanks, and thanks for the welcome...joining this forum has been the most expensive thing I have done in a long time!

Not a problem. Technically it does cut down on the light, but only the bad light.
This forum has been quite expensive for me also. But at least I have learned how to use all of this expensive stuff from here. The results are worth it!

Now as a complete novice i am stunned by the quality and would love to go prime all the way now lol. My 70-200 is sharp but this is sommin else.
Its only now i realise how crap my 17-85 kit and even my sigma 10-20 is soft :(
Great shots by the way.

My camera usually sits in Aperture Priority mode. This allows me to decide how much depth of field I want to aim for, balanced with how much sharpness. If the shutter speed becomes too low I increase the ISO accordingly.
