Stumped - Metz 54 question

Okay - Just got my Metz 54 MZ-3 for my D-60. It came with the SCA 3102 M2 adapter.

It won't fire when I put the camera in AV, or TV, mode with the flash set to "TTL" mode. I admit I don't know much about flash photography. When I put it in Manual mode, it works just fine.

Any help in this area would help me sleep tonight.

I don't know the D60 but the 10D does the same, because the 10D doesn't support TTL, only ETTL.

On the Metz ETTL is a sub mode of TTL and is set by turning that wee dial after selecting TTL using the mode button, see page 22 of your manual.
