hello there,
I am very close to purchasing a new D30, probably within the next few days, but before then I have a few questions. First off I want to know how the D30 handles lengthy exposures (ie 6 to 15 seconds), I shoot alot of river shots and commonly use "smooth" water effects with my 1V. If anyone had some samples of multi second exposures so that I can see how the D30 does with noise reduction, I would be greatful.

Thank you for your time,
Blair

It seems to work just fine, if you keep ISO down at 100 or 200. Or course it's all relative: it would be nice if someone out there had time to test ISO 100 20 sec. vs. ISO 200 10 sec. vs ISO 400 5 sec vs. ISO 800 2.5 sec. :)

If you're in cold environment you get less noise. See http://photography-on-the.net/D30/photo.php?photo=75&size=1 (I recall it was in +8 or so celcius).

But you will get some "stuck" pixels in very long exposures. The noise reduction can't get it all out.

Hi,
That was my first question I asked before I bought my D30. I take pictures pretty much only at night and the shortest exposures I like to do are 30 seconds. I use RAW mode and set the ISO to 100. (Before D30 I liked to do 30 min shots and longer) I havent even tried that on the D30 yet but not expecting great results. But so far Ive done many at 20 to 30 seconds and and very pleased with the results. Here is one I like a bit....
ISO 100 f/11 20 seconds some handheld flash Cheap Tokina f4.5 19-25mm@19...

Hope I was helpful.... Youll love it.

Doug, I just looked at your websight and was nothing less than amazed. Just one question, how much of that was done with a D30, if another camera was used, what kind was it?

Thank you very much. So far just the one shot (got a dime, gallery 2) is D30. Ive only had it a week now but am in night photographer heaven. Its like a dream come true. Plan on using it at a cabin in the woods over the weekend so stay tuned for update.
Umm the rest were taken with either an Elan 2 (same lenses as D30 shot/s) or an Older F1 for a good portion of them using the FD lenses. I have a nicer quality FD selection but its gonna get some shelftime for while I think ;-)

Thanks for the kinda remarks...

One more, but a very good example:

All of them are taken in ISO100 with exposure time over 4 seconds. Lens used:

Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX DG Asp
Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8 L USM
Can EF50mm f/1.4 USM
