Hi all,

I have a giant amount of digital photo's organised in directories and I usually browse them with the slideshow options in either Irfanview or the Canon Zoombrowser software. I'm not realy satisfied with this way of working. I miss efficient searching and only see the name or directory path of the picture when I'm using the option to display on the full screen. I can look at the exif data in Zoombrowser but then you're looking at the entire interface with all disturbing knobs and stuff on the screen.

I would like to be able to frame the pictures (as you often see in webalbums) with a clean background with the possibility to zoom in and look at the exif information simultaniously (e.g. next to the framed photo).

If possible I would like to have them in a database where I can search for either a name or phrase in a name but also on the exif data. (e.g. photo's selected on a certain date and taken with iso 400).

Does anybody know which software supports all these functions?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi all,

I've run into Jalbum: www.datadosen.se/jalbum/ which is actually quite nice, however, it still misses the dbase, search option. Furthermore it produces a lot of extra files on your harddisk. However I consider the latter to be a minor problem. Particularly nice about Jalbum is the platform independence! I'm trying to migrate away from MS towards Linux and this really helps!

Does anybody know if a separate search engine exists which can scan through the exif info of a number of jpg files scattered in different directories. This would already help a lot. Linux applications are also welcome!

Hope to hear something from you out there.....help is really appreciated.

Lenny,

The two best options I know for image database are:

- iMatch from www.photools.com
- ThumbsPlus from www.cerious.com

My favourite is T+ because it suits my needs better than iMatch, which is very complex.

You can download full trial versions for evaluations for both products.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think both these are Windows only.
