Just proves that its the photog and not the gear that takes pictures. Beautifully framed, congratulations.
I guess the boys face is a bit dark, but I wouldn't change it (you asked for critique aswell).

Nice shot the happiness shows in the faces.
I would crop the sky and move the horizon off the middle also the face off the focus centre.
Portraiture beats landscape for me but combining the two wow.
Well done

A fill flash would have helped a bit.

Not bad. Like Hellashot said fill flash would be good, and you'll get a better picture if you stand back a bit and use a longer lens.

I agree about cropping a touch but otherwise, the shot is one in a million. Absolutely beautiful!

thanks for the advice, but all i have right now is my crappy 18-55 kit lens.
i'll try the cropping and i'll see how it turns out =]

Ok, so i cropped the sky out quite a bit, i personally prefer the first version, so i need a second opinion. Also, i increased the brightness on the boy's face by about 7%
also, this might be due to my crappy monitor, but the image looks somewhat more vibrant and bright in it's native .psd format. Could the jpeg conversion/resizing take away some of the colors?
thanks

Great shot and great edit psyko. I like the orignal composition better though.

I like the light on the face. The boys face can be brought up in photoshop if you desire. I would have cropped the right side of the photo and left the right side alone. That would put the family on the right, off center.

The first one is better. It has good touch of great wide opens and it looks very natural. The second one is a bit too cramped to my taste.
