Current tripod (Gitzo Weekend G1026) is fine for my G2 but seems overwhelmed by my new 10D/EF 24-70mm f2.8 combination (4.25 pounds.)

Want to keep current head (Gitzo off-center ball quick release G1276M).

Now considering Gitzo Explorer G2228 (carbon fiber... $520USD) or Gitzo Explorer G2220 (aluminum ...$206USD.)

Welcome your comments on either of these two choices. Also welcome alternate recommendations (other Gitzo models or other brands.)

Tripod use covers full range of applications.

I use Gitzo G2220 with a Kirk BH3. I could not be happy more. I could not justify that high price for a carbon fiber with not so significant weight reduction, considering when I have to lug around 300mmf2.8, 70-200 f2.8 and a couple of Vivitar 285 on my kinesis shoulder harness.

Great buy for the lifetime.

Soumya, thanks! Was leaning toward the G2220 for exactly the same reason. I played with a G2228 and got comfortable tuning the legs for a level ball. Once I got the hang of it, I was hooked. Ordered the G2220 today.
