Hi,

I have recently purchased a 10-D and been using a Canon i950 printer to print some superb images. I have selected the Adobe RGB colour space profile on the camera for all this printing.

My local high street Boots store has a digital printer which prints onto silver halide paper (as per usual 35mm film) and I (nor the people working the machine in the store) know which colour space is best to print the images - either sRGB or Adobe RGB.

Given that it costs only 15 (UK) pence to print a 6x4 image, it appears much cheaper than using my i950 printer with Photo Paper Pro. I just need to work out the best settings to print with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As I have been told, read, and learned, Adobe RGB has the better gamut of colors. If it's a digital photo printer, it's surely able to support it. If you draw 2 concentric circles that cover the color spectrum, the inner most circle is sRGB while the out circle (Adobe) covers sRGB and then some.

Shoot Adobe is what I've been told and what I do.

Using Adobe RGB is not always best - it depends on what the target device uses. If you use Adobe RGB and the target uses sRGB then the colours you see on your monitor may not match what is printed. I use the Jessops digital printing service which uses Fuji machines which I believe use sRGB as their colour space. When I have prints done there I always make sure that I use sRGB and have had no problems so far.

Thanks for this info. I have managed today to track down someone who seems to know what they are talking about in Boots.

The colour profile their printer uses is sRGB. It cannot use Adobe RGB. They can also only accept jpeg files.

I wonder how they compare to Jessops printing service?

Will give it a go next week.

I have just used the Boots service from memory card and highly recommend it. They did them in one hour with white border on prints which is a free option.

Have also used the digital service at Jessop's but now prefer Boots as they offer more options than Jessop's currently.

I am sure you will be pleased when you give it a try. I always use sRGB mode as it seems more widely accepted in all outlets.
